Jeremy Pitcher, Glenn Forward And Chad Homan Grab Fulton Speedway Highbank Holdup Victories
By Dave Medler
FULTON, NY – April 29, 2017 – Day two of the Fulton Speedway Highbank Holdup weekend saw a huge field of SUNY Canton Sportsman and a talented field of Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Models.
With 44 SUNY Canton Sportsman attempting to qualify, speedway officials decided to run two 25 lap features without sending anyone home. Jeremy Pitcher and Glenn Forward were the class of the field each picking up a feature victory.
Chad Homan who is going to be calling the Fulton Speedway home for 2017 picked up the win in the 20 lap Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Models.
Mike Phelps and Jeremy Pitcher paced the field down to the green for the first 25 lap feature for the SUNY Canton Sportsman. Pitcher led the opening lap by a half a car over Phelps at the line while behind them racing was two and three wide.
At the lap 5 mark Pitcher and Phelps ran nose-to-tail and side-by-side with Tyler Trump right there in a good three-car fight for the top spot. Kyle Fink and Billy Clark Jr. showed in the top-five.
With 10 laps complete Pitcher, who made it known that 2017 would be his last season behind the wheel, opened a 10 car length advantage. Phelps and Trump were having a tight fight for second and third with Fink and Clark still in the top five.
A yellow on lap 16 would erase the lead Pitcher built up for a dash to the finish. When the green came back out Pitcher took off and would win with a full straightaway at the checkers. Mike Phelps, Billy Clark Jr., Tyler Trump and Kyle Fink would finish second through fifth.
In the second SUNY Canton Sportsman feature Tyler Thompson and Glenn Forward paced the field that showed Thompson as the narrow leader over Forward on the opening lap in the 25 lap main.
With 5 laps complete Thompson still led as he had Forward all over his back bumper in a tight fight for the lead. Chris Mackey, Todd Root and Kevin Root waged their own fight for third through fifth.
On lap 6, Forward shot by Thompson to be scored the new leader. Thompson started dropping through the field and eventually went to the pits with obvious mechanical problems.
Quick caution periods on lap 9 and lap 13 would tighten the field up to give a shot at Forward for the top spot and the win.
With 10 laps to go Forward held a narrow three car length lead as Mackey, Todd Root, Kevin Root and Mike Button gave chase to the leader. Over the remaining laps nobody had anything for Forward as he was the first under the checkers for his first Fulton Speedway win. Kevin Root, Todd Root, Chris Mackey and Mike Button finished second through fifth.
Chad Homan jumped out to the early lead and paced the field in the 20 lap Billy Whittaker cars & Trux RUSH Late Models feature as 2016 ‘Highbank Holdup’ winner Bryce Davis bolted into second setting his sights on Homan.
At the 5 lap point Homan held a few car lengths lead over Davis. Behind the top two you could have thrown a blanket over Dale Caswell, Cook and Matt Parkhurst.
When the race reached the halfway point Homan was on rails as he opened a full straightaway lead over Davis, Caswell, Parkhurst and Cook.
The yellow would wave on lap 12 taking away the big lead Homan had, giving the top runners one last shot for the win. When the green came back out and for the remainder of the race nobody seriously challenged Homan as he picked up his first Fulton victory. Bryce Davis, Dale Caswell, Matt Parkhurst and defending track champion Chris Fleming rounded out the top-five.
