By: Ron Szczerba

Fonda, NY – A longtime supporter of the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway, along with some drivers who have raced there, continues his support of the track this Saturday, June 15 with Parks Companies Night featuring the Thunder on the Thruway Series! The Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds will compete in a $4,000 to win event while the Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman will run for a $1,500 prize, and the Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stocks will race for $1,000 to win as part of the series.

The Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman division will also be in action along with the Fonda Fair Four Cylinders. Make-up features will also be held for the Modifieds (from 4/27) and the Pro Stocks (from 5/25). Ironically on Parks Companies Night, the driver of Tadd Parks #1 car Rocky Warner is the current point leader in the Amsterdam Truck Center Modified division so far in 2024.

There have been two events held in the Thunder on the Thruway Series so far in 2024, one at Fonda and the other at the BD Motorsports Media LLC sister track the Utica Rome Speedway. Winners at Fonda back on 5/4 were Michael Maresca, Chad Edwards, and Luke Horning while at Utica Rome on 5/10 Matt Sheppard, Payton Talbot, and Devon Camenga were the winners.

The Thunder on the Thruway Series has been around since 2008 when it was known as the Go-Green NMX Series. In 2009 the series was known as the Dual Track Thunder Series before the current title was started in 2010 and has run under the Thunder on the Thruway Series title in 2011, 2021-2024.

The history of Thunder on the Thruway Series champions since the start of the series shows Brett Hearn as Modified champion in 2008 (only the Modifieds ran the series back then); Bobby Varin (Modified) and David Towns (Open Sportsman) in 2009; Stewart Friesen (Modified), Bill Trexler Jr. (Open Sportsman), and Rocky Warner (Pro Stock) in 2010; Stewart Friesen (Modified) and Rocky Warner (Pro Stock) in 2011; Stewart Friesen (Modified), Chad Edwards (Crate 602 Sportsman), and Nick Stone (Pro Stock) in 2021; Alex Yankowski (Modified), Payton Talbot (Crate 602 Sportsman), and Nick Stone (Pro Stock) in 2022; and last year in 2023 Yankowski, Talbot, and Stone repeated as series champions.

Gates open at the Fonda Speedway this Saturday, June 15 at 4:00 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6:00 p.m.

If you are a race fan that gets to the track early, be sure to check out the Fonda Speedway Museum & Hall of Fame which is located on the Fonda Fairgrounds at the rear of the parking area going down towards turn four. The museum is open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on race days and admission is free!

All races at Fonda Speedway – will be broadcast live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv) as part of the $150 annual subscription.
