WEEK TWO OF THE 2023 SEASON COMING UP AT FONDA THIS SATURDAY WITH A SPECIAL EVENT

Fonda, NY – This Saturday, April 29 week two of the 2023 season takes place at the “Track of Champions� Fonda Speedway with all regular divisions in action including the Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds, the Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, the Below Zero Ice Cream Pro Stocks, the Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman, the Fonda Fair Four Cylinders, and the Captain Carl’s Luxury Cruises/Done Better Pools Non-Qualifiers race for the Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman if there are more than 30 cars in attendance!
Also, a special event will take place in the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series (MVVDMS) as they present the second annual “Don Gras Memorial� racing program. Mr. Gras was a fan of local stock car racing and could be seen at Fonda on a weekly basis along with other tracks as well.
HISTORY LESSON
Last year on 4/30/2022 Matt DeLorenzo started his championship season with his first of five wins in the 2022 season. Other winners one year ago were Chad Edwards (Sportsman), Lance Hill (first career Limited Sportsman victory), Nick Stone (Pro Stocks), Ken and Kerrie Hollenback (Fonda Fair Four Cylinders).
Last year on 4/30/2023 the winners of the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series (MVVDMS) feature events at Fonda were Jimmy Fugel (Antiques), John Marks (Mystiques), Curtis Condon (Late Model), Brian Gray (Sportsman), and Randy Delaney (Modified).
MORE HISTORY
While we are looking at history, here is the history from the week of 4/29/2022 including the winners of the events from 25 years ago, in five-year increments.
Five years ago, on 4/28/2018 the racing program was rained out.
Ten years ago, on 4/27/2013 the winners were Stewart Friesen (Modified), Cody Bleau (Crate 602 Sportsman), Nick Stone (Pro Stock), Reuben Kennedy Jr. (Street Stock), and Danny Varin (CRSA Sprints).
Fifteen years ago, on 4/26/2008 the Modified, Sportsman, and Pro Stock features were rained out while Chuck McSpirit (Street Stock), and Beau Ballard (IMCA), were the winners of the two feature events before the rain came in. For Ballard it was the first win of his career in the division at Fonda in a total of three, all wins coming in the same season, with the last one coming on 6/14/2008.
Twenty years ago, on 4/26/2003 the acing program was rained out.
Twenty-five years ago, on 4/25/1998 the winners were Dave Camara (Modified), Frank Twing (Street Stock), Rob VanAernam (Hobby Stock), and Jeff Carr (IMCA). For Twing it was the first win of his career in the division at Fonda in a total of two, both coming in the same season with the last one coming on 10/17/1999.
LETS GO FONDA SPEEDWAY KIDS
How Cool is this! In conjunction with Fonda Speedway promoter Brett Deyo, Fonda Speedway Kids Club coordinator Ashley Abeling, MVVDMS Promoter Laurie Fallis, and longtime racing veteran Frank Blanchard, three lucky kids from the ages of 7 to 13 will have a chance to win a ride and put a smile on their face from ear to ear.
Winners will win a trip around the famed 1/2 mile in a 1936 Hudson Body two-seater and pace the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modifieds feature events. Adults, get those kids signed up this Saturday at the Kids Club and maybe get a chance for them to ride around the “Track of Champions.� Sign up table is located just at the gate two entrance under the covered grandstand.
If you are a race fan that gets to the track early, be sure to check out the Fonda Speedway Museum & Hall of Fame which is located on the Fonda Fairgrounds at the rear of the parking area going down towards turn four. The museum is open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on race days and admission is free!
Since 1953, the “Track of Champions� Fonda Speedway has hosted the best in stock car racing. Under the management of BD Motorsports Media LLC, the speedway will operate weekly on Saturday nights from April through August plus several special events.
