RACE RECAP: 2022 Race No. 156 – November 19, 2022 South Carolina 400 – Late Model Stocks – Florence Motor Speedway
FLORENCE, S.C. – Brenden “Butterbean” Queen won Saturday’s South Carolina 400 at Florence Motor Speedway. It was his 17th overall win in 2022.
Late Model Stock racing at Florence Motor Speedway is a game of patience and saving tires on the old worn South Carolina asphalt. While teammates Matt Cox and Sam Yarbrough dominated the first three-quarters of the 200-lap race, it was tire saving mode for Queen.
The final 25 laps were chaos; Cox, Yarbrough, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mason Diaz – in quite possibly the fastest car – all were taken out or took themselves out of contention with wrecks or penalties. With 11 laps remaining it was Queen and Carson Kvapil restarting at the front.
The pair of your racers swapped the lead on different restarts, but ultimately it was Queen who got the upper hand for the win. The victory was significant for Queen being on the road away from his hometrack – Langley Speedway; and his first effort with his 2023 team – Lee Pulliam Performance.
Kvapil finished second with Isabella Robusto finishing third.
