Night of Champions 1 Delivers, Crowns New Champions in 4 Divisions at 5 Flags
By Chuck Corder

Four lucky drivers reached immortality Saturday night at Five Flags Speedway.
For eternity, their names will be mentioned alongside a select group of wheelmen who have captured track titles at the famed half-mile asphalt oval.
Five Flags awarded its first four track championships Saturday on Night of Champions No. 1. Each division crowned new champions and two drivers have now captured titles in multiple classes for their careers.
Pensacola’s high banks will wrap up its regular season next Saturday when it hosts Super Late Models—as part of the Deep South Cranes Blizzard Series and the touring Southern Super Series—the Allen Turner Hyundai Pro Late Models and the Story & Bleich Roofing Crown Stocks for Harvesters Credit Union Night of Champions No. 1.
Lloyd’s Glass Pure Stocks 25
Feature: Johnston, Champ: M. Langham
Maddox Langham continues to rise to the occasion when opportunity knocks in his young career.
He basked in the afterglow of a Sportsmen track championship on the Night of Champions stage last season. Langham added another crown to his collection Saturday when he held off good friend Mason Johnston for the Lloyd’s Glass Pure Stocks title.
He celebrated on the front stretch as clouds of smoke billowed out his windows. Langham’s team had to push it back to Victory Lane.
“(Pure Stocks and Sportsmen) go hand-in-hand,” he said. “These are a little bit harder to handle.
“(Car owner) Robert Barber gave me a hotrod all year long.”
Johnston won the 25-lap feature, his second victory of the season, with Langham finishing runner-up and Connor Odom coming home third. The grandson of short-track legend Okie Mason learned a valuable lesson from his “Paw Paw” this season.
“We started off the season really good, and I thought we were going to make a good run for the championship,” Johnston said. “My Paw Paw told me not to worry about championships and just worry about winning races. If you win enough, championships will come. Shoutout to Maddox. He did a heckuva job and it was fun racing with him all year.”

Gulf Coast Real Estate Pro Trucks 30
Christensen Wins Feature; Capers Champ
![2024 Track Champion Treyce Capers](
Treyce Capers’ undefeated streak this season came to an end Saturday in the season finale at Five Flags Speedway.
No worries. A second-place finish on Night of Champions No. 1 and three wins in four features were more than enough to wrap up his first career Gulf Real Estate Group Pro Trucks track championship.
“This is pretty awesome,” Capers said. “This was our goal when we started the season. It’s a dream come true to win a championship. This place holds a special place to me. It keeps getting better.”
Current Late Model driver Seth Christensen, a former full-time Pro Trucks competitor, won his third career Pro Trucks feature. He handily won the 30-lap feature Saturday, defeating Capers and Darryl Rudd.
Christensen will be back at the famed half-mile asphalt oval next week, hoping to win an Allen Turner Hyundai Pro Late Model track championship.
“Both classes are so much fun,” he said. “I do love the Trucks and these 8-inch tires. It’s an awesome track.”

James Patrick and Chad Robinson were cutting up Saturday night at Five Flags Speedway.
The two Alabama buddies were the class of the field in The Dock on Pensacola Beach Sportsmen 30-lap feature. The pair gave the packed house one of the closest finishes of any division this season. Robinson edged his friend by less than the bumper while Patrick celebrated his first career Sportsmen track championship. Daryl McDonald III rounded out the podium.
Patrick had a commanding lead coming into Saturday and could not be caught.
“It’s been a long time,” Patrick said. “I’ve never won one of these championships. It’s about time.”
Patrick had three victories in eight features this season. Robinson didn’t cross the Bay much but made the most of almost every trip with three wins of his own in four starts.

Faith Chapel Outlaws
Griffin wins 40 Lap Feature; Boyett is Champ
![2024 Outlaw Champion Logan Boyett
Faith Chapel Outlaws
The night didn’t start out great for Logan Boyett. But it ended just how he drew it up.
The veteran Pensacola driver watched his slim, four-point lead against 16-year-old Carter Taylor get sliced in half after qualifying.
In the Faith Chapel Outlaws 40-lap feature, though, Boyett stayed in front of Taylor throughout and secured his first career Outlaws championship with a third-place result.
Defending Outlaws Snowball Derby champion Derrick Griffin won his second feature in four starts and Bubba Winslow recorded runner-up honors.
“It wasn’t by much, but it didn’t have to be,” said Boyett, who had top-five finishes in all seven features this season. “I wish we could’ve pulled off the win tonight, but we’ve had so much work, headache, frustration go into this. Sure, we had the three wins, but we’ve struggled. Tonight was the first time we felt free for the entire race.”
Boyett adds another championship to his trophy case that includes Pro Trucks titles in 2018 and 2022. He was quick to acknowledge everyone who made the memorable season possible.
“I can’t thank enough my wife, kids, parents, my team, so many come and help us, even if it’s moral support,” a grateful Boyett said.
Meanwhile, Griffin behind James “Rawhide” Smith’s No. 29 machine was in peak form. He qualified on the pole (17.363 seconds) but started sixth after the die-roll invert.
Griffin worked his way to the front in the first dozen laps and swiped the lead from Winslow on Lap 17 as the pair dove into Turn No. 3. He was quickly in the wind.
“I can’t thank Rawhide and all his partners enough,” Griffin said. “These guys make this possible. This thing hauls (butt). I guess I’m good enough to make it go forward.”
Winslow celebrated his best finish of the season.
“We got some work to do to catch Derrick,” Winslow said. “That’s who we’re shooting to beat. They’re the best right now. We’ll eventually get back to where we need be. But, heck, we’ll take second for the season we’ve had.”
