Five Flags Speedway

Postponed till Sunday

By Chuck Corder

Mother Nature was the only champion Saturday night at Five Flags Speedway.

With track champions poised to be crowned in both the Allen Turner Hyundai Pro Late Model divisions and the Beef "O" Brady's Pro Trucks series, scattered showers disrupted to the celebration.

Races for all four divisions, which also includes The Dock on Pensacola Beach Sportsmen and Butler U-Pull-It Bombers, continue at noon Sunday at the famed half-mile asphalt oval. Pit gates open at 10 a.m. The PLMs will qualify at noon with races anticipated for 1 p.m. Sunday.

The night's schedule was first interrupted by a two-hour rain delay just before 30 PLMs were set to qualify. When the track finally dried close to 8 p.m. Saturday, qualifying had been scrapped in favor of PLM points leader, and presumed champion, Bret Holmes setting a four-car invert with the roll of the die.

Almost as soon as race director Dan Spence called for the PLMs to take to the track, the bottom dropped out once again with a steady ban of rain peppering the track.

The call was then made to reschedule to Sunday.

Fans who purchased tickets Saturday are encouraged to hold onto their tickets to get admission to Sunday's races.
