JEGS to Pay Lap Money for Snowball Derby Weekend

JEGS Laps to Deliver $4,000 in Bonus Money to Snowball Derby & Snowflake 100 Purses

PENSACOLA, FL (November 7, 2011) – JEGS, the leading high performance auto parts store online at JEGS.com and through a free catalog, has partnered with Five Flags Speedway for the 44th Annual Snowball Derby Weekend (Nov 30 – Dec 4) in Pensacola, FL. Spokesmen for both parties announced today the introduction of “JEGS Laps, a $10 bonus that will go to the leader of each of the 400 feature laps between the Snowflake 100 and the 300-lap Snowball Derby during the first weekend in December.

The $4,000 up for grabs will be spread between the two main events during “Derby Weekend as a sign of JEGS’ continuing support of the circle track industry through its most prestigious event.

“JEGS is proud to bring some additional excitement to the Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100, said Scott “Woody Woodruff, Director of Media and Motorsports for JEGS. “We are racers and we know what racers want. We think this program will be well-received by the short track community and that’s exciting to us.

For more than 50 years, JEGS has offered the lowest prices on high performance and discount auto parts through a catalog and via JEGS.com. This year JEGS has also concentrated on its circle track market with products from engines, to suspension parts and safety gear.

JEGS has also had a history with the Snowball Derby weekend, as NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Landon Cassill drove a JEGS-backed entry in both the Snowflake 100 and the Snowball Derby in 2010. A JEGS car will again be competing during Snowball Derby Weekend this season with JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Rookie of the Year Cody Coughlin behind the wheel.

“The JEGS name has been synonymous with racing for many, many years and they’ve really stepped up their circle track and their short track racing involvement, said Tim Bryant, General Manager of Five Flags Speedway and Promoter of the Snowball Derby Weekend. “We couldn’t be happier to have JEGS as a partner in the Snowball Derby weekend. It’s a great affiliation and we hope to make this a partnership that continues long-term.

“With the format changes that we’ve implemented this year and with the help of the folks at JEGS making an extra incentive for drivers to lead ‘JEGS Laps’ with money on the line, we think fans are going to be in for one of the best Snowball Derbies in a long time.

The Snowball Derby, on Sunday, December 4th, will pay $22,500 to the winner of the Super Late Model event. With the additional $3,000 of lap money involved from JEGS for the 300-lap race, the winner of that race could near the $25,000 mark if he or she had a dominant racecar. There is also a $1,000 worth of lap money up for grabs in Saturday night’s Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100 for the Pro Late Models.

The 44th Annual Snowball Derby kicks off on Wednesday, November 30th with the Cat Country/WEAR TV3 Green Flag Party. As the teams unload and begin the tech process, fans from 5pm to 9pm can meet the drivers and see the cars that will compete during Snowball Derby Weekend. The first on-track activity comes on Thursday, as practice for the Super and Pro Late Models commence. Later that evening, qualifying and feature action for the Five Flags Speedway Bomber and Sportsmen divisions will take place.

On Friday, December 2nd, it’s WXBM Pole Night, as the top 30 in Snowball Derby qualifying will be locked into Sunday’s 300-lap feature. More practice for the Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100 cars will take place, as well as a full card of Super Stock and Modified action.

Then on Saturday, December 3rd, it’s the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 time trials, qualifying races and the 100-lap feature, plus final practice for the Snowball Derby cars and a 50-lap last-chance qualifying race for the Snowball Derby.
