Lawson Racing wins at the Estevan Motor Speedway
Lawson Racing was north of the border this past weekend at the Estevan Motor Speedway for Energy City Sprint Car Showdown doubledown, Estevan's first ever sprint car doubleheader. Friday night saw a small rain shower pass over the track as the first sprint car heat was just getting onto the track. It would be about an hour before the first heat got back onto the track. The track was hammer down fast for the heats. Kevin was in the first heat and would finish 6th. I would start 1st in the 2nd heat. Kyle Fedyk would get the jump in the heat and would go onto run an average lap of over 106 MPH!! I would finish 3rd. In the feature, I would start 6th and Kevin 10th. Off the start, I would settle into 4th and race for several laps for 3rd. I was able to move into 3rd and began to close on 2nd. The car was working so well on the bottom. I was able to move into 2nd with 6 to go. I just concentrated on hitting my marks and soon had closed up on Fedyk for the lead. I got right up to his rear bumper out of turn 2 with 2 laps to go and made my move coming out of turn 4 for the white flag and brought it home for the win. What an amazing experience!! It was great to be able to win it with my dad on the track and also my grandpa and uncle there as well. We were really looking forward to continuing the momentum the next night, but Mother Nature had other ideas and rained us out right around race time. It was my best night of racing in my career and I can't wait to get back onto the track in Devils Lake in a few weeks.
