Chris Ferguson notches third-place finish in Dream finale at Eldora

After a rough start to the week at Eldora Speedway, Chris Ferguson rebounded on Saturday night to finish third in the 26th annual Dirt Late Model Dream in his Diff-Tran Machining No. 22 K and K Trucking/ Live Oak Aesthetic and Family Dentistry / Team Zero Race Car / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The performance eclipsed his previous best Dirt Late Model Dream finish, which was a fourth in 2019.

“We brought a good car to Eldora, but we just couldn’t seem to catch a break on Wednesday or Thursday. On Friday we hit the ground running, and it translated into Saturday’s show. On Friday night (in the 25-lap prelim) we got better at the end, so we knew in a 100-lapper we’d be pretty good,” Ferguson said. “I just took my time there at the beginning with a lot of guys, then at the end when it was time to go, we went. We’re disappointed to not leave here with a victory, but I’m proud of what we accomplished. I’ve got a great team and great sponsors, and because of that we got our best Dirt Late Model Dream finish to date.”

Making the nine-hour trek north, Chris Ferguson was one of 74 Late Models on hand at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Wednesday afternoon as preliminary action for the 27th annual Dirt Late Model Dream came to life.

Finishing second in his heat race behind Ricky Weiss, Ferguson locked into the 10th-starting position for the preliminary feature. With $10,000 on the line, Chris improved five spots in the 25-lap affair to record a fifth-place finish. He trailed Brandon Overton, Kyle Bronson, Chad Simpson, and Ricky Weiss to the checkers.

With preliminary results from Wednesday pinning him third on the starting grid for his heat race on Thursday, Chris faded in the closing laps to fall short of a transfer position with a fourth-place outing. Grabbing the third-and-final transfer spot in his B-Main, Ferguson earned the 26th-starting position for the $127,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream. Running into trouble near midway point, Chris was an early retiree from the 100-lapper after drawing a caution on lap 59.

On Friday afternoon for the 26th annual Dirt Late Model Dream, Ferguson clocked in sixth fastest in his group before placing second in his heat race behind Jonathan Davenport. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Chris improved one spot in the 25-lapper to register a fifth-place finish. He followed Gregg Satterlee, Shannon Babb, Kyle Bronson, and Jonathan Davenport across the line.

Rolling off third in his heat race on Saturday evening, Chris secured his spot into the $126,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream with a third-place finish in his heat. Marching forward 10 spots in the 100-lap affair, Ferguson notched a third-place finish behind Brandon Overton and Chris Madden. Jonathan Davenport and Darrell Lanigan completed the Top-5 finishers.
