Sixth-place finish in Dream opener at Eldora

Ricky Thornton Jr. and the SSI Motorsports team visited Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Wednesday afternoon to kick off the 27th annual Dirt Late Model Dream with four nights of racing. With the 74-car field split into two separate groups for a pair of preliminary features, Thornton Jr. clocked in 14th fastest in his group before streaking to a 10-lap heat race victory. With preliminary results on Wednesday night lining him up third in his heat race, Ricky secured his spot into the $127,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream with a runner-up finish behind Kyle Larson. Running into trouble early in the 100-lap affair, Thornton Jr. pulled off on lap 20 with a blown motor.

On Friday evening for another round of preliminary features, Thornton Jr. followed up the third fastest time in his group with a second-place finish in his heat behind Ryan Gustin. Holding his spot for all 25 laps of the A-Main, Ricky scored a seventh-place finish.

Rolling off on the front row of his heat race on Saturday afternoon, Ricky outdueled Gregg Satterlee to pick up the 15-lap victory. Locked into the fifth-starting position for the $126,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream, Thornton Jr. pulled off on lap 57 after getting caught in a multi-car tangle early in the feature.
