Multiple Top-10’s for RTJ in East Bay Winternationals
On Monday, Ricky Thornton Jr. followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla. for the 45th Annual Wrisco Industries Winternationals.
In a stout field of 76 entries for the opening round of the six-race affair, Ricky fell just short of transferring into the $5,000-to-win A-Main, ending his night early.
For another $5,000-to-win program on Tuesday, Thronton followed up the fifth-fastest lap in his time trial group with a third-place finish in his heat race. Earning the 16th starting position for the A-Main, Ricky faded to a 20th place finish.
The following night, Ricky failed to reach a transfer spot via preliminary events and would utilize a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series provisional to lock into the 28th starting position on the feature grid. After Mother Nature postponed the $7,000-to-win event to Thursday night, Thornton mounted a convincing charge through the field, advancing 22 positions to register a sixth-place outing.
In Thursday’s regularly scheduled program, Ricky grabbed the third and final transfer spot in his heat race to lock into the 14th starting position for the $7,000-to-win feature. Marching forward seven spots in the 40-lapper, Thornton crossed the finish line in seventh.
On Friday evening, Thornton raced to a 14th place finish, while Saturday’s $15,000-to-win finale saw Ricky pass 13 cars to record a solid tenth-place finish.
