RICKY ELLIOT DOUBLES DOWN FOR WIN & TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP

Delmar, DE- Ricky Elliott is the definition of patience and execution. With only a 25-point lead over Donald Lingo, Jr. entering the feature, it was imperative for Elliott to make no mistakes. Elliott did just that, capturing the 20-lap Super Late Model feature event and his second Super Late Model points championship at Delaware International Speedway, totaling four championships with his two Modified titles.

This time last year, Elliott was declaring his retirement. “Jake (Marine) said run another year with a focus to win another championship. Next year, we plan to race when we want to race and not concern ourselves with points, said Elliott in victory lane.

Nick Davis took the early lead cranking out lap times in the 18 second bracket on the smooth ½ mile. Misfortunes happened early for Donald Lingo, Jr., and his championship hopes faded, as he suffered front suspension issues on lap one.

An early restart was quickly called back, as both competitors, Kevin Scott and Herb Tunis were sent to the rear for jumping the start. On the next start, Elliott immediately put pressure on Davis, with Mark Pettyjohn rim-riding in the third position.

By lap three, Elliott successfully passed Davis for the lead, with Pettyjohn following in suit.

On lap eight, Pettyjohn abruptly slowed coming out of turn four while running in the second position.

Elliott would extend his lead to nearly a straightaway, combating lap traffic to take the checkered flag over Nick Davis, Kerry King, Kevin Scott, Jr., and Herb Tunis.

“We have let Donald (Lingo) get better and that really made us go to work, said Elliott regarding the stiff competition in the Super Late Model division. “This racetrack was unbelievable, just perfect.

Matt Hill went to his comfort zone to the top of the racetrack to pass Mike White on lap three of the RUSH Late Model feature event. He never looked back, as he extended his lead to win the feature event and the points championship. Mike Wharton, Billy Thompson, David Pettyjohn, and Joey Warren completed the top five, respectively.

Robert Smith captured the Delaware Super Truck feature event with an impressive car count of 16 trucks.

Ashley Merritt added another Delmarva Chargers victory to her win column.
