WAGNER CAPITALIZES ON CARBERRY’S MISFORTUNE TO WIN THE MID-ATLANTIC 305 SPRINT FEATURE

Written By: Alison Watson

Delmar, DE- Eddie Wagner capitalized on Tom Carberry’s misfortune to win the 25-lap Mid-Atlantic 305 Sprint feature event. “We love coming to Delaware, said Wagner in victory lane. “I showed Tom (Carberry) my nose too early. I needed to make the top work, it would have been close (if Carberry did not break).

Larry McVay started on the point of the feature event, with immediate challenges from Tom Carberry on the top-side of the track. The two battled side-by-side with Carberry finally taking the lead position on a lap five restart.

Eddie Wagner, Dave Brown, and Jeff Geiges followed in suit, dropping McVay to fifth quickly.

By halfway, Wagner was on the tail of Carberry and approaching dense lap traffic, with Brown, Geiges, and Tim Tanner following in suit.

On lap 16, a single-file restart regrouped the field, with hard-charging Tyler Reinhardt trying to crack the top five on the top.

With five laps remaining, Carberry continued to fight off Wagner, ultimately slowing with two laps remaining. Wagner went on to win the event, followed by Brown, Tanner, Geiges, and Reinhardt.

Heats were won by Austin Bishop, Tom Carberry, and Jeff Geiges. Larry McVay received the “Lightning Fast Time of the night from his lap four fast lap. CJ Faison was the hard-charger recipient, finishing seventh from his 17th starting position.

James Hill led wire-to-wire and was unchallenged for the 15-lap modified lite feature event. Hill had mechanical issues early in the night that required a group effort in the pits to have his car ready for the heat race event. Last week’s winner, Jerry Barker finished second, followed by Jason Musser, Mike Mullen, and Curt Miles, Jr.

Noah Vincent made a dramatic move on lap two, going three wide between Curt Miles, Sr. and Dick Beauchamp to take over the lead. David Smith was a fast-approaching second that ran out of time. Vincent took the checkered flag over Smith, Curt Miles, Jr., Brian Meisenholder, and Beauchamp.
