"MONSTER FRIGHT NIGHT" MONSTER TRUCK EVENT COMING IN AUGUST
The Delaware International Speedway has always been ranked as one of the top dirt track speedways in the Mid-Atlantic region. On any given Saturday night or now Thursday night, you can witness some of the best Big Block Modified and Super Late Model action on the super-fast half mile oval. The Cathell family has taken pride in preparing a top notch surface that drivers up and down the east coast have always complimented over 48 years of oval racing at DIS.
Over the past couple of years, the family has started looking for other venues which could be held inside the 125 acre motorsports complex. “Although change is sometimes hard to embrace, says Charles Cathell, President of the Delaware International Speedway, “we are very concerned where our sport is going in the future. Since bringing my son, Mark Cathell, on board, which moves this business into the third generation, I've had him investigate other venues to host here at our facility, states Cathell.
Well, it didn't take long for the Cathell family to realize an easy fit to a new venue search would be their neighbor’s right across Rt 13. The Metal Shop, owned by Rick and Sheri Disharoon, house one of the most exciting up and coming Monster Truck driver and trucks in the country. The Saigon Shaker, driven by Rick's son Ryan, has been a major player on the Monster Jam Monster Truck traveling circuit in 2017. With a couple Monster Jam trophies under his belt, Ryan has received a lot of recognition over this last year. He finished third in the Young Guns Monster Jam World Finals held in Las Vegas, NV last winter. This definitely placed him on the map as one to watch in 2018!
The event name "Monster Fright Night" presented by Spicer Bros. Construction Company of Salisbury, MD, will take place on Wednesday night, August 16. The lineup for the event will include two of the Metal Shop entries, “Saigon Shaker and “War Machine (The original Saigon Shaker). Joining them will be the winningest freestyle Monster Truck in Monster Jams history. The “Avenger which is owned and driven by Jim Koehler, he will also bring his other truck, the “Wrecking Crew driven by Cory Rummell. Both are very popular on the Monster Jam circuit. The last two entries to round out the 6 truck shoot-out will be another huge favorite of Monster Jam followers, the “Stone Crusher driven by Steve Sims. Sims has wheeled the “Stone Crusher to seven Monster Jam World Series appearances in his career. Out of the same camp, will come the Chevy Silverado Monster truck named “Hooked representing the fishing community with its unique Blue Marlin paint scheme, “Hooked will be driven by Bryan Wright.
These 6 trucks will compete against each other in 3 separate competitions, Wheelie, Free Style and Drag race around the course. We will crown one winner in each category and one overall "Champion of Fright Night." The gates open at 5pm on Wednesday night, with a huge "Tail Gate party and meet & greet for fans. The Tail Gate party will be held from 6-7pm and all you need to enter is your event ticket to see your favorite Monster truck in person! At the completion of the meet and greet, all the trucks will head out for the “Monster Fright Night truck parade around the Speedway.
