Delaware International Speedway
"BATTLE OF THE BAY" THIS THURSDAY NIGHT!
By Charlie Brown, DELMAR, DE – Rain washed out “Delmar Night� the first point race of the season Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway. The extended forecast looks fantastic however to Thursday night, April 27’s race No.1 of the “The Battle of the Bay.� This trii-track series between Delaware International Speedway, Potomac Speedway (Md.) and the Wincherster (Va.) speedway will pit the best Super Late Model and Rush Crate Model drivers in the Mid-Atlantic against each other on the new lightning fast Delaware International clay.
It will be the first outing for the track regulars from the S.R. Pete & Sons Late Model but it will not be the first outing for several local drivers have already been sharpening their skills at the other two tracks in the series. Ross “The Boss� Robinson of Georgetown, Del. has already won two of the three events at the Winchester Speedway and Amanda “The Wild Child� Whaley of Millsboro, Del., Nick Davis of Gumboro, Del. and Kerry King of Delmar traveled and done well. Whaley recently set a new track record in qualifying at the Potomac Speedway and ran second to Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa. in the main.
It will be the first test of the locals running in the RUSH Racing Crate Model division. DIS Division champion, Sparky White of Delmar looked strong on practice night in the new Elliott Farms car and former champion Matt Hill of Georgetown was also very quick.
Bernheisel Racing and Lazer X Chassis will join the Battle of the Bay Super Late Model series awarding the top driver (who must compete in all nine races) a 2018 Stage 1 Laser X chassis. Hoosier Mid-Atlantic has also come on board and will be giving the Super Late Model feature winner each night a brand new Hoosier Racing tire.
The RUSH Racing Crate Models will be sponsored by Sports Clips of Maryland and Delaware who have contributed $2000 for the points fund. This points fund will work exactly like the SLM, giving the top five Crate Model drivers (who must compete in all nine races) cash at the end of the series..

Race No. 2 will be Friday night April 28 at Potomac and Wincheser will round out the weekend on Saturday night April 29.the two additional weekends are scheduled for July 27 – 29 and August 10 – 12.
The Delmarva Chargers and the Super Trucks will also compete. Thursday night gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m. Spectator admission is $20, pits $35 an kids 13 and under are free on the spectator side when accompanied by an adult.
