ELLIOTT SETS NEW TRACK RECORD IN ROUTE TO SIXTH WIN IN LATE MODELS

The S.R. Pete and Son’s Late Model 20-lap were blazing fast. Rookie Dylan Evans shot around the outside of Donald Lingo, Jr. and Nick Davis to take the early lead. Ricky Elliott started in the eighth spot but was challenging Davis for third by lap three. At the end of the first segment the top five were Evans, Lingo, Elliott, Davis and Dennis.

At the drop of the green Elliott pulled out all of the stops and shot to the front for lap six. Herb Tunis was able to make it into the top five and Rob Schirmer, making his first start of the season was the last transfer into segment three by getting to sixth. During the second segment Elliott set a new Late Model track record with a lap of 18.205 at 98.874 mph.

The third segment saw Davis, Schirmer and Tunis go by the wayside as Elliott, Evans and Lingo remained the top three. As Elliott drove away in the final five laps Lingo and Evans put on a good battle for second. Lingo was able to get by Evans with three to go but the rookie fought his way right back into the second spot. Elliott would post his sixth win of the season with Evan ending a great run in second and Lingo placing third and still leading the points going into the final week. “I hit upon something a couple of weeks ago, said Elliott. “But last week we lost and engine and this week we brought out the backup car and it worked just as good on it.
