BRAD TRICE MAKES LATE RACE PASS TO WIN ELLIOTT FARMS BIG BLOCK MAIN
By CHARLIE BROWN, DELMAR, DE – Saturday night was “Topless Night� sponsored by Elliott Farms with all the cars in the five weekly divisions removing their roofs to allow fans to get a good look at the drivers inside of the cars. “Bad� Brad Trice made a late race pass of Robert Dutton to win his second of the season in the NAPA Big Block Modifieds and defending point champion, Andrew Mullins picked up his second win of the year in the S.R. Pete & Sons Super Late Models. Other winners on the night included: Matt Hill in the Crate Models, Kenneth Peek in the AC Delco PSC Modifieds, Tim White in the Mod Lites and Bobby Reed in the Super Trucks.
In the 25-lap NAPA Big Block feature, Robert Dutton brought the field to the green with Mike White and Brad Trice going two wide for second. Trice quickly worked into the second spot and Scott VanGorder followed into third. Last week’s winner, Matt Hawkins was on the move in fourth and Bobby Watkins held down fifth.
A spin brought out the yellow on lap ten. On the restart, Trice began to pressure Dutton as VanGorder and Hawkins fought for third. Coming off the fourth turn just before halfway, Dutton and Trice hooked bumpers and almost collected Hawkins. The front two got separated and back on the throttle and the green stayed out.
Hawkins continued towards the front taking second from Trive on lap 14 but Trice regained the spot one lap later. With just seven to go, Hawkins rolled to a stop in the top of the fourth turn with a broken front suspension. On the restart, Trice turned up the heat on Dutton who began to struggle with the handling on the car mid turn.
With three to go, Dutton pulled into the infield and Trice took over the lead. Bobby Watkins was up to second but could not close on Trice who took the win. Third went to Mike White with VanGorder fourth and Dave Dissinger fifth. Heats were won by Matt Hawkins and Trice.
