THE "WILD CHILD" AMANDA WHALEY POWERS TO 2ND WIN IN S.R. PETE & SONS LATE MODELS
The 20-lap Norris Bryan Memorial S.R. Pete & Sons Late Model feature was a barn burner. Amanda Whaley jumped on the throttle at the drop of the green with Nick Davis glued to her back spoiler. The caution flew on lap five when Ed Drury III got around.
On the restart it was a three car battle between Whaley, Davis and Donald Lingo, Jr. for the lead. Whaley held off the challenge but the yellow would fly just two laps later when Davis rolled to a stop then headed to the pits with power steering issues.
Whaley, Lingo, Jr., and Ricky Elliott went almost three wide on the restart but once again Whaley would prevail. On lap 13, Whaley almost spun coming off the second turn with both Lingo and Elliott braking hard to avoid contact. All three recovered and the order remained unchanged just as the yellow would fly a final time for Bob Geiger who rolled to a stop.
Whaley would not make any more mistakes as she drove to her second win of the season. The battle for second went down to the wire with Lingo and Elliott finishing in a dead heat for the runner-up spot. Fourth went to Herb Tunis and Davis returned to finish in fifth. Heats were won by Whaley and Lingo, Jr.
