THE WILD CHILD FLAT FOOTS HER WAY TO THE FRONT AND WIN IN SUPER LATES
By Chad Cathell -Full Moon Festivites make for an action packed evening on Pepsi Bottling Ventures night at the Delaware International Speedway. Drivers filed into the speedway with some new faces filling the pits, along with some out of town racers making the tow down to prepare for Tuesday Nights, Diamond State 50, and would prove to put on some exciting racing on the half-mile dirt oval.
The SR Pete and Sons Super Late Models would hit the track second on the night for the feature events, and Joe Warren with his experimental crate engine Ford would lead them to the green. Immediately after the drop of the green the “Wild Child Amanda Whaley dropped the hammer on the throttle and around the outside, through the middle, and to the bottom through traffic she zipped her way around to the front by the time she hit the back straightaway.
Whaley would begin to check out, but not without rookie Dylan Evans putting on the pressure. Whaley and Evans would begin working through lap traffic and Whaley’s lead began dwindling from about two seconds down to six tenths of a second with two laps to go. Heading into turns three and four, Whaley says she knew she had to make the move of diving in hard on the lap cars or else be vulnerable to losing her lead and the win. Luckily for her the car stuck, she stayed out of trouble, and ended her night in victory lane to the roar of the crowd on their feet. Heats on the night were won by Evans and Nick Davis.
