JAMIE MILLS CONTINUES TO ROLL IN DELAWARE BIG BLOCKS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (6/16/12) – Jamie Mills has hit his stride as he captured the 25-lap William J. and Juanita Cathell Memorial Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway. It was his third straight week of winning in the division.
Michael White started on the pole after winning the first heat and Dale Hawkins started in second. Mills quickly worked by Hawkins for the second spot just as the yellow flew when Noman Short’s car went up in smoke.
On the restart Mills shot into the lead and would never look back. Beau Wilkins was working his way to the front taking second on lap five. Matt Jester cracked the top five on lap six and two laps later took fourth from Hawkins.
By halfway Mills had almost a two second lead. That lead continued to grow over Wilkins until the leader caught the back of the field with seven laps to go. Mills however, took his time and worked his way through without taking a lot of chances. Wilkins was able to close a little but lapped traffic held up his progress late in the race.
Mills cruised to the victory with Wilkins second. Third went to White with H.J. Bunting coming on strong in the closing laps to take fourth and Jester rounded out the top five.
