REESE MASIELLO SCORES WILD FIRST WIN IN CRATE MODELS
In the Crate Models, Matt Glanden set fast time for the second week in a row but a ten car inversion draw would find young Reese Masiello on the pole for the 15-lap feature. Masiello took off at the drop of the green with Roy Hassler running a strong second and Dylan Evans working by John Emory for third.
The race would be plagued throughout with cautions but the one at the halfway sign would be the most dramatic. Masiello got out of shape coming off the fourth turn and headed head-on towards the wall. He overcorrected and came down across the track clipping Hassler and sending him head first into the wall where he ended up on the nose of Emory. Ironically the contact with Hassler straightened out Masiello’s car and he remained the leader under the yellow.
Evans was now in second and with three to go Masiello again got out of shape in turn two. Evans was about to make the pass when Emory came to a stop bringing out the yellow and saving Reese once again. In the final three circuits he would make no mistakes and drove to his first career win in only his second year of competition. Evans finished second with Mike Wharton coming on strong in the second half to finish third. Fourth went to Sparky White and Matt Hill rounded out the top five.
