ELLIOTT THE FORCE TO BEAT IN LATE MODELS

Ricky “the Rocket Elliott lived up to his nickname on Saturday night at Delaware International as he rocketed to the front of the field to record his sixth win of the season.

A full field of Late Models were on hand providing some great action. Kerry King led the first lap but the yellow was quickly out for Richard Jarvis, Jr. who spun in the fourth turn. On the restart, Amanda Whaley went to work on King for the lead while Donald Lingo, Jr. worked by Kevin Scott, Jr. for third.

The yellow was out again on lap four when David Hill slowed with a flat. On the restart, Whaley cranked it up and had the fans on their feet when she took the lead for lap five. Whaley’s performance came to a quick end one lap later as something broke on the car at the end on the back straight and Whaley went straight off the turn but was able to come to a stop before making any contact.

Donald Lingo, Jr. was now the leader with Elliott, who had started in ninth, running second. The pair put on a great side by side battle and was almost dead event at the halfway sign. Elliott moved to the point and with the race staying green was able to pull away for the win. Donald Lingo, Jr. finished 5.4 seconds back in second with Mark Pettyjohn coming from 12th to finish in third. Fourth went to Dale Lingo and King rounded out the top five. Heats were won by Herb Tunis and Hal Browning.
