ELLIOTT MAKES IT THREE IN A ROW IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
Ricky Elliott lived up to his nickname “the Rocket on Saturday night as he rocketed to the front and drove to his third consecutive win and his fifth overall in the 20-lap Super Late Model feature.
Amanda Whaley showed the field the way around the track for the first four laps of the Super Late Model. Elliott had been hard on the throttle from the drop of the green move from his fourth starting spot the second on the first lap and then working his way on top for lap five.
Mark Pettyjohn appeared to be the only car that had anything for the leader as he worked his way past Whaley into second at the halfway sign. A couple of quick yellow flags just past halfway kept the field bunched producing good battles throughout. Andrew Mullins and Donald Lingo, Jr. went three wide with Whaley in a battle for third but Mullins got up and over the front of Whaley resulting in a tangle that involved all three plus Staci Warrington who went off the top side to avoid the mess.
For the final four laps, Mark Pettyjohn committed to the low groove while Elliott ran on top. Pettyjohn pulled even going into the first turn with two to go but could not pull off the pass. Elliott controlled the final two laps and took the win. In victory lane an emotional Elliott dedicated the win to his grandfather who had passed away earlier in the week.
Pettyjohn scored a second with Herb Tunis ending a good drive in third. Fourth went to Mark Byram and Lou Johnson rounded out the top five. Heats were won by Elliott and Tunis.
