H.J. BUNTING GETS 3RD WIN IN BIG BLOCK MODIFIEDS

H.J. Bunting got the benefit of a heads-up start from qualifying and turned it into his third win of the season in the 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway.

With no inversion, heat winner H.J. Bunting started on the pole and second heat winner Dana Walker started in second. On the green Bunting took off with Jester taking second on the outside. The yellow was out before the first lap was complete when Bobby Balentine came to a stop. On the restart the first lap got in with Bunting in the lead before the second and last caution flew for Michael White who got some help getting around in the fourth turn.

On the restart Bunting opened a two second lead over Jester with Beau Wilkins running strong in third. Brad Trice held down the fourth spot and Joseph Watson ran in fifth.

The leader started working through traffic before halfway but maintained a 1.5 second lead. Watson’s car started to smoke but he was able to get by Trice for fourth and with four laps to go took third from Wilkins.

Bunting would have no problems with lapped traffic and went on to his third win of the season in the J&M Roofing/Teo. Jester ran out of time and finished 1.078 second behind in second with Watson holding on to finish in third. Fourth went to Trice and Wilkins rounded out the top five.

“We got lucky with the draw, said Bunting. “That’s the second or third time this year. I’ll take it any way that I can get it right now. You never know when you are out front if you’re in the right groove or not so I just tried to run as hard as I could.
