Davis Wins A Thriller At The Creek

Spring Valley, MN (June 29)

By: Todd Narveson

The Deer Creek Speedway roared back to life after being rained out for two weeks in a row, Perfect weather graced the facility for the annual Fireworks Night. This week also feature the Racindirt.com Summer Thunder Series present by Whitewater Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.

A record car count for a one-day weekly show was set. An incredible 182-cars filled the pit area and a good-sized crowd turned out. The show was supported by Ace Hardware of Spring Valley, Randy & Sandy Norby, Bill & Brenda Weber, Dohlman Lawn Care, K2Ag and Legacy Seeds.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were up first for their 18-lap feature. Adam Martinson quickly moved from row three and took the lead on lap 4. Kadden Kath moved to third and challenged Patrick McCarthy for second before the yellow flag flew on lap 9.

Brandon Jensen quickly entered the picture and uses the high groove to snare the lead on lap 12. Jensen drove on from there to pick up the win. Kath finished second with Martinson in third. Kullen Kath would finish fourth and McCarthy ended up fifth.

Forty Meadow Greens Golf Course USRA Hobby Stocks here on hand and 24 of them took the green flag for their 18-lap feature. Gavin Bussinger started in row one and took the early lead. Ryan Goergen would challenge but his race ended on lap 16 with a breakdown.

Bussinger led all 18-laps to pick up first Deer Creek win and became the 505th different feature winner at the speedway. Second and fourth place finishers Nick Brady and Parker Anderson both were disqualified in post-race tech. That moved Scott Spilde to second, Dustin Gulbrandson to third with Nick Schwebach and Steve Dwyer in the top five.

A huge field of 51-Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mods entered the show for the $1000 to win feature. Twenty-five of them started the 18-lap feature. The race was red flagged on lap one when Seth Maier and Landon Volkman tangled in turn two. Maier’s car ended up on its side in the melee, but both drivers escaped uninjured.

Hunter Kennedy would lead all 18-laps to pick up the win. Taylor Ausrud finished in second with Kaeden Bronner in third. Jake Richards would finish in fourth and Michael Johnson rounded out the top five.

Brandon Hare started second in the Rochester Chevrolet-Cadillac USRA Stock Car main event. Hare took the lead at the green flag and took off. The battle for second was intense with Kyle Falck, Danny Cole and Kory Adams in tight formation.

Hare would lead all 20-laps for his second win of the season. Kory Adams ran second with Falck third. Blake Adams came from 0th to fourth and Brian Mahlstedt charged from 19th to fifth.

Alex Williamson led the early stages of the NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modified 25-lap main event. Jim Chisholm quickly worked to second and passed Williamson on lap five for the lead.

There was a yellow flag about half way thru and on the restart, Jake Timm made a brief challenge for the lead. Chisholm took off and opened up the lead. Brandon Davis moved from eighth to third. The leaders got into lapped traffic but Chisholm maintained a 1.57 second lead.

A caution came out when the leaders took the white flag. That eliminated Chisholm’s lead and set up a green, white, checkered dash.
The race restarted and Chisholm worked the bottom as he had during the race. Davis passed Timm and rocketed around the top.

The white flag flew and Davis zoomed to the outside of Chisholm in turn one. They went side-by-side down the backstretch into turn three. As the checkered flag was in the air, Davis stormed around the outside of Chisholm in turn four and stole the win by .144-of a second for the $2000 payday.

Timm would race to a third-place finish while Joe Chisholm came from 10th to fourth. Rodney Sanders charged from 15th to fifth in the final rundown.
