Toole Crowned 2014 Open Wheel Modified Points Champion
Excellent weather greeted fans, drivers, crew & staff for the Lee Motor Company Night at the Races. On tap for tonight the Super Stock 4’s, PL Woodard Pure Stock V8’s, Pure Stock 4’s, Open Wheel Modifieds & the Late Models.
Our first feature of the night, the Super Stock 4’s, line up on the backstretch with Kevin Sanford and Jason Horne on the front row. Jason Horne would take the point quickly, bringing James Bailey with him. Kevin Sanford dropped back into 3rd spot followed by Hunter Bailey & Austin Holcombe. Holcombe would get around Hunter Bailey to take over 4th spot. The caution would come out on lap 7 for a slow car on the front stretch, but we were quickly back green. Horne leads James Bailey, Kevin Sanford, Austin Holcombe & Hunter Bailey. Holcombe would get around Sanford to take over 3rd spot. Caution again on lap 10 for Damien Bryant when he looped around over in turn 4. Jason Horne would lead the field to green with 10 to go. Austin Holcombe battled James Bailey for the 2nd spot, Hunter Bailey held tight in 4th and Kevin Sanford held onto 5th spot. John Proctor, who started 12th, was trying to make his way into the top 5 as he closed in on Hunter Bailey. Holcombe & Hunter Bailey would make the move together to get around James Bailey to take over 2nd and 3rd spot, sending James Bailey back to 4th. Proctor got around Sanford for 5th when Sanford went just a little high in turn 2. Jason Horne would lead the remaining laps to bring home the win with Austin Holcombe, Hunter Bailey, James Bailey & John Proctor rounding out the top 5.
Our 2nd feature of the night, the PL Woodard Pure Stock V8, were ready to go 15 laps with last weeks winner Wade Ferrell on the pole & Roy Hall on the outside. Roy Hall would take the point followed by Amanda Liles, Wade Ferrell, Phillip Lamm & Gary Whitely. Caution Lap 2 for Pat Ferrell as he got out of shape on the front stretch. Back green with Hall leading Liles, Whitley, Lamm and Ferrell. Liles made her way around Hall to take the lead, but Hall was right back around her bringing Gary Whitley with him. Whitely would make contact with Hall, lose his tire and bring out the caution! Back green with Hall leading Lamm, Ferrell, Peele and Liles. Pat Ferrell loops around over in turn 1 on lap 10 bringing out the caution. Back green with Hall leading Lamm, Ferrell, Peele & Liles. Roy Hall would lead the remaining laps bringing home is first win. He was followed by Phillip Lamm, Wade Ferrell, Paul Peele and Willie Schwann.
Next up, the Pure Stock 4 division with Lee Hardie & Michael Webb on the front row. Webb would take the point out of turn 1 followed by Cody Keith Lee Hardie, Joey Morgan and Cooper Edwards. Lap 1 would see a huge melee over in turn 4 involving 5 cars. Timmy Mills, Allan Kea, JP Brantley, Jesse Richardson, Jr & Gary Dillon. It all started when Jesse Richardson, Jr. made contact with JP Brantley. Everyone else spun to avoid. After a lengthy caution, we were back green with Michael Webb leading Cody Keith, Lee Hardie, Joey Morgan & Brent Atkinson. Caution again on lap 3 for a solo spin over in turn 2. Back green with no change in the top 5. Caution lap 6 for 2 cars over in turn 4. During this caution, the 3rd place car of Hardie would retreat to the pits for a flat tire, but would return before going back green. Back green with Webb leading Keith, Morgan, Atkinson and Gary Dillon. Atkinson would lose power causing him to slip back, just as another caution came out for a car going around in turn 2. Back green with Webb out front of Keith, Morgan, Dillon and JP Brantley. After a lengthy race, Michael Webb brought home the win followed by Cody Keith, Gary Dillon, JP Brantley & Joey Morgan,
Running their final points race of the year, the Open Wheel Modifieds were ready to go with Matt Quade, who broke the track record earlier with a 15.137, on the pole. The X Factor, Chris Parker, would start on the outside. Chris Parker jumps out front followed by Matt Quade, Ryan Toole, Ryan Ayers & Chris Arnold. Lap 6 would see a caution for a spin over in turn 2. Back green with no change in the top 5. Lap 17 would see no change in the top 5, but a car would get around over in turn 1 bringing out the caution. Green flag with Chris Parker continuing to lead. Chris Parker would bring home the win followed by Matt Quade, Ryan Toole, Ryan Ayers & Chris Arnold. Ryan Toole wrapped up his season with his Points Championship.
Our final feature event of the night, the Late Models. Dustin Mitchell & Christian Joyner would lead this field of cars to the green for 30 door banging laps. Dustin Mitchell takes the point followed by Christian Joyner, Damon Kotke, Ray Tucker & Michael Batten. Lap 3 would see the caution for Dakota Whitley over in turn 1. Back green with Mitchell leading Joyner, Kotke, Tucker & Batten. Lap 6 would see another caution for 2 cars that got together over in turn 1. Green flag, Mitchell out front with Joyner, Kotke, Tucker & Batten battling to get up there with him. Lap 13 would see the leader catching the tail of the field. Three cars would go 3 wide in turn 1, but only 2 would make it out. Carlton Toney would spin hitting the inside retaining wall in turn 1 bringing out the caution. Green flag with Mitchell bringing the field across the start finish line. Joyner, Kotke, Tucker & Batten would maintain their positions within the top 5. Roger Lucas would take over 5th spot from Batten as Christian Thomas tried to get around Batten to take over 6th spot but couldn’t complete the pass. Dustin Mitchell would bring home the win followed by Christian Joyner, Damon Kotke, Ray Tucker & Roger Lucas.
County Line Raceway will take a weekend off and return to action Saturday, October 4, 2014 with its Night of Champions. It will be our final points night of the season for Late Model, ARCO Restoration Thunder & Lightning, Super Stock Four Cylinder, PL Woodard Pure Stock V-8 and Pure Stock Four Cylinder divisions. For more information on County Line Raceway, visit the track's website at www.countylineracewaync.com or call the track office at 252-985-1949.
