Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway hosted the Virgil Hanson Memorial Logger’s Cup on Saturday, July 23rd. It is the biggest race on the calendar for the Late Model division. Also in action were the Royalty Core Custom Grill & Truck Parts IMCA Northern SportMods, Dwarf Cars, and IMCA Sport Compacts.

The Late Models had an incredible turnout of competitors with over converging to the historic ¼-mile clay oval. Coburg’s Jesse Williamson would take the big payday home when the racing was over. It is his first Late Model win of 2022. Joey Tanner, from Portland and racing for the Mitchell family, was the runner-up, with third going to Otis veteran Jimmy Whisler. Rob Mayea of Bend collected fourth, followed by Coos Bay chauffer Preston Luckman in fifth. Gresham driver Jason Johnson and Luckman were the consolation feature winners.

Dalton Bloom took care of business in the Royalty Core Custom Gill & Truck Parts IMCA Northern SportMods. The Lebanon driver accrued his second win of the season at CGS in the division. Coburg’s Kevin Williamson, driving for car owner Mike Cummins, beat David Schmidt, from Roseburg, for second. Hunter Bloom of Eugene and Springfield racer Daniel Ray were fourth and fifth in the finishing order.

The Dwarf Cars made another journey to Cottage Grove Speedway with another good car count for them. Central Point gasser Josh King would be at the top of the podium when all of the dust settled. Chris Kress, of Roseburg, was credited with over third finishing Medford motorist Camden Robustelli. In fourth and fifth, Josh Rogers and Albany’s Tanner Curr were the rest of the top five. Trevor Davis was the winner of the B Main.

Scarlett Drake was the winner of the IMCA Sport Compact feature. It is the second win of the campaign for the Salem racer. Cottage Grove’s Dusten Henderson hit the line second with third going to Burnie Bryant of Sutherlin. Eli Miller, from Oakland, ended the weekend fourth with Cottage Grove driver Chris Pierce in the Randy Kuhl fielded car, grabbing fifth.

Cottage Grove Speedway returns to racing on Tuesday and Wednesday for Speedweek Northwest presented by the Western Sprint Tour.
