Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway would host the fourth round of the 2018 Champion Racing Oil Speedweek Northwest, presented by BC Motorsports and Highline Performance, schedule. Twenty-eight entries would fill up the pit area for their first of two nights at “The Grove”. The states of Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona, and Texas were represented as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.

In the main event Austen Wheatley showed the way in the opening laps. Wheatley, of Lake Stevens, Washington, was fast in preliminary action earlier in the evening despite making his first start of the week. He would be caught on the eleventh circuit by Penngrove, California’s Michael Kofoid.

Kofoid, racing for British Columbia car owners Doug and Kathy Rutz, would have to work his way through some very thick traffic but managed to retain the lead each time. There would be a couple of times when he would handle a lot of pressure but managed to keep all challengers in check. Kofoid would win his second Speedweek feature of the week and the second of his career.

Kyle Miller, from Salem and running for car owner Kady Adelman, was second over El Paso, Texas’ John Carney, in the Clayton Snow owned entry, in third. Austen Wheatley completed his night in fourth followed by fifth finishing Justyn Cox, of Clarksburg, California.

Qualifying was split into two groups with Mill Creek, Washington native Cam Smith and Michael Kofoid getting fast time of the night. Heat race winners were Harrisburg teenager Tyler Thomas, Jake Waddell of Roseburg, Benicia, California’s Billy Aton, and Lucas Ashe from Cottonwood, California. Marysville, Washington pilot Colton Heath, in the Kelly Welch and Alan Larson owned entry, won the consolation feature. Austen Wheatley won the Trophy Dash to earn the inside front row starting position.
