Cottage Grove Speedway would host the crown jewel of Non-Wing Sprint Car events of the Pacific Northwest on Saturday September 6th, the 5th Annual Herz Precision Parts Wingless Nationals. The $2,000.00 to win pay day would attract a total of sixteen teams from the states of Oregon and Washington. The race would also mark the final round of the 2014 season for the Northwest Wingless Tour.

Come feature time at the drop of the green flag polesitter Kyle Miller from Salem got to the front. The four-time CGS track champ, and four-time winner of the Wingless Nationals event, would be elbows up from the very start. He would set a rapid pace and wasted no time while operating in lapped traffic creating a massive interval between himself and second place.

Miller, driving the Automotive Sheetmetal/K&S Motorsports/Gary’s Subaru Service/Machine For Speed by Craig Jenson #10 XXX, lapped all but fourth place when the halfway point was reached for the scheduled fuel stop. The first twenty-five laps would produce no cautions while just two incidents would occur in the second half of the main.

On the restarts Miller would master them and continued to blaze the trail eventually lapping fourth and fifth before it was all said and done. He would stay out in front to get the checkered in the nick of time just as his right rear tire was quickly losing air pressure. It would the first NWWT win of the year for Kyle Miller and his fifth career Wingless Nationals victory. He still remains as the only driver to win this event.

Colin Baker was the only driver to remain on the lead lap finishing runner-up in the Tim Galloway owned Steelhouse Metal Roofing Supply/BC Motorsports/Todd’s Auto Body/Huddle Automotive Repair #83 KPC while in third was Thurston’s Ricky Ashley in his Todd’s Auto Body/Clark Printing Company/BC Motorsports/Hedge Carter Gutter Service #85 Rocket. The balance of the top five would be made up of Poulsbo, Washington ace Garret Johnson in fourth piloting the Sequamish Indian Tribe #3G Schnee and the Carrothers Automotive Machine Shop #18 Maxim of Mike Carrothers from Cottage Grove in fifth.

Colin Baker was fast time of the night and Kyle Miller was the trophy dash winner. Both Baker and Miller were victorious in heat race action. At the end of the night Brad Rhodes of Aloha was crowned the 2014 Northwest Wingless Tour champion. The Beaverton Automotive/Pro Tow/Rabourn Performance Engines #50 Eagle team became the sixth different winner in as many seasons for the NWWT.
