RACE OF CHAMPIONS READIES FOR BIG NIGHT AT CHEMUNG SPEEDROME ROD SPALDING CLASSIC 75, TRIBUTE TO ED MCGUIRE 51, INEX LEGENDS & BANDOLEROS

The Race of Champions will be the proud presenter of the Rod Spalding Classic 75 for the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series the Tribute to Ed McGuire 51 for the Race of Champions Super Stock Series at the Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome this Saturday, August 4.

The Super Stock Series race is a special event as McGuire’s career spanned several seasons in the Late Model category at Shangri-La Speedway with nearly $2,000 in addition in lap and in contingency money being raised in addition to the $1,000-to-win.

“It’s going to be a cool event for us,” stated Tim Gullo. “Ed (McGuire) was a great figure in racing in our area and this is a great way to honor him. Obviously Ed owned Modifieds but he was long time competitor into what has evolved into this division. There is lap money on the line and we are really looking forward to it.”

Bryan Sherwood of Owego, N.Y., comes into the Modified portion of the event looking to honor Rod Spalding.

“This night is a big deal for all of us,” stated Sherwood. “There is more to this night than just racing as we honor several fallen heroes and bring the drivers and personalities back to prominence and give them the opportunity to be reunited and have a night that’s about them while we compete on the track. We’re all looking forward to it.”

The Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers will not only host their traditional auction but is also presenting a Drivers Reunion for racing personalities that competed and officiated at the Shangri-La Speedway and Chemung Speedrome.

The INEX Legends and Bandolero division will also have INEX points on the line in the highly anticipated night of competition at the challenging “speedplant”. The INEX Legends will have $275-to-win on the line and $75-to-start as part of their program.
