Mark Dobmeier – Richert Memorial Winner & Huset’s Champ!

September 13, 2013 – Following a weekend full of bad luck and uneventful happenings, Mark Dobmeier aboard his Lunstra Motorsports car had a weekend for the ages. They picked up a couple of victories, including the illustrious Jerry Richert Memorial, while capping the weekend off with a second place finish at the Huset’s Speedway in their season finale.

The previous weekend saw three DNF’s at the Jackson Speedway and at Huset’s where they had to go to a back-up car in the middle of the program. The team put that behind them by kicking the weekend off Thursday night at River Cities Speedway. The Big Trucks by Jimco Eagle picked up the win at the high-banked bullring after starting fourth in the feature. The win was Mark’s sixth of the year at the track and 101st of his career there.

“It was good to finish a race for once, let alone win one again,” Dobmeier joked. “The car was great all night long and it was nice to end our season at home (at River Cities) with a win.

With Friday night off, the team headed southeast to the Cedar Lake Speedway outside New Richmond, Wis. 29 total cars signed in under the IRA banner for the popular race honoring the late Jerry Richert. The night started off by qualifying in at eighth quick. Dobmeier would pick up his 13th heat victory of the year after starting fourth. After all of that, the Senske & Son No. 13 was starting on the pole for the feature event. He would lead every lap of the 30-lapper and garnered the $5,000 winner’s check. The win was his first at the Richert Memorial and also his second career with the IRA group and also his 16th overall for 2013.

“What an honor to finally pick up this win after coming here for so many years.” Dobmeier said. “The Richert and Tatnell families do an awesome job promoting this event and we are pumped to finally win this event. The car was perfect for the feature and we did what we needed to do after starting on the pole.”

It was back to South Dakota and the Lunstra shop to get ready for the season finale at Huset’s, which was paying $10,000 to win thanks to Dollar Loan Center. 15 cars signed in for the Season Championship with the Forx Radiators timing in third quick. A single-file track yielded a fifth place finish in the heat race and lined them up to start eighth in the 25-lap feature after the 10-pill was drawn.

Dobmeier worked his way into the third position throughout the race on a lightning-fast surface around the top, and would be lined up on Ian Madsen’s tail tank for a restart with three to-go after second running Austin McCarl stopped. Madsen took off on the restart and left “Dynamite” to finish second and a nice payday of $5,000 for his Sioux Falls Ford Eagle. However, a couple of driver’s including Dobmeier were displeased with the restart that was not called back.

“What I was upset about was Ian went from the top side of the track to the bottom on the restart,” Mark stated. “He did take off a little bit early, but every driver’s meeting I’ve ever been to says you must hold your line as the leader on the restart and he didn’t. We would have loved to have had a chance to do something for the 10 grand, but the restart was upheld. Congrats to Ian as he did what he needed to do to win the race.

“It was still an amazing weekend for this race team, especially after the horrible weekend we had before. We also ended up winning the title at Huset’s for the fifth time which is nothing to sneeze at. A big thank you goes out to all of our sponsors, crew, fans, and anybody that has anything to do with this team. And none of this would be possible without Dave (Lunstra) as well.”

One race is scheduled for the upcoming weekend with that being Friday night with the Outlaws at the Clay County Fairgrounds. Mark will not be racing Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway as he is in a wedding that day.
