Mid-Summer Classic Saturday at CSP!
The mud will be flying Saturday night at Canyon Speedway Park as the 1/3-mile clay oval near Phoenix hosts the Mid-Summer Classic.
Following an open practice on Friday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday’s Mid-Summer Classic will go green at 7:00 p.m.
The 9th World Vapor IMCA Modifieds will headline the Mid-Summer Classic with the Arizona Differential Pure Stocks, Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades, Micro Sprints, AMA Mod Lites and Dwarf Cars in action as well on Saturday.
While Ricky Thornton, Jr., is the reigning Mid-Summer Classic champion in the 9th World Vapor IMCA Modified ranks, Garrett Funk and Shawn Zelenka are knotted atop the point charts in the track championship battle.
Funk topped the most recent CSP outing on June 20 to move into a tie for the points lead with Zelenka, with George Fronsman 14 points off the lead pace in third. Thornton, Jr., topped the most recent pair of events prior to Funk’s victory.
Riding a three-race win streak in Arizona Differential Pure Stock action to build a 13-point lead over Chris McCurdy, Jr., Matt Martinez also enters Saturday’s action as a defending Mid-Summer Classic champion.
With six different winners in the last six Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades, Daniel Romero is out to a 22-point lead over Mike Hartsock in the track’s title chase.
The Micro Sprints have offered up six different winners in as many regular season events as well with Kenny Hilton the most recent victor on June 20.
Tyler Merrill has topped two of the last three AMA Mod Lite events while Tim Cotherman is the most recent Dwarf Car winner at CSP.
