USAC Southwest Set for Hank Arnold Memorial at CSP!

Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (October 14, 2014) – It’s “welcome back” time for the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars as the series makes its first Canyon Speedway Park appearance in nearly three months at this Saturday night’s Hank Arnold Memorial.

Following an open practice session on Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars headline Saturday night’s Hank Arnold Memorial that also includes Micro Sprints, Pure Stocks and Dwarf Cars.

Saturday’s racing action at the event named for the Sprint Car Hall-of-Famer goes green at 7:00 p.m.

The USAC Southwest Sprint Cars last took to the CSP clay on July 26 with R.J. Johnson reeling off his third consecutive series score at the track near the Phoenix metro area.

Johnson, the reigning series champion, had a four-race win streak snapped on September 20 at Casa Grande by Charles Davis, Jr., with Josh Pelkey topping the most recent event at Prescott Valley this past weekend.

While Johnson holds a healthy 123 points lead in the series championship chase, the battle for second is a close one with Pelkey just eight points ahead of Davis, Jr.

Matt Rossi and Shon Deskins round out the current top five in USAC Southwest points with the rest of the top ten including Mike Martin, Tye Mihocko, Andrew Reinbold, Nick Aiuto and Michael Curtis.

Saturday’s card also mark the return of Micro Sprints after an extended absence as well, with Jarrett Martin the most recent winner on July 26.

Ty Warner and Steve Bitting split Pure Stock honors in most recent action on September 19-20 with Tim Cotherman and Pat Hennessey taking Dwarf Car wins the same weekend.

Tickets to Saturday’s Hank Arnold Memorial are just $15 with a $2 discount for Military, Seniors and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20 each night.
