Start Father’s Day Weekend With A Trip To The Races At Can-Am Friday Night

Every night at the Can-Am Speedway has been special being the 50th Golden Jubilee Season. But none more special than this coming Friday night, when we look back on the first ever race night at the speedway 50 years ago to the day.

Back on June 14th 1974 the first ever competitive laps were turned on what was back then, a massive 5/8 mile configuration with big wide straight aways and sweeping turns, which tested drivers and machines on a weekly basis.

On that day Chief Starter Lee Gill dropped the green flag on the first ever Modified feature held at the track. The first Modified feature saw Mike Clark out run Dick Horning to the checkered flag in the 20 lap feature. Later that Friday evening, God Dobbins started at the tail of the field, to claim the win in the Stocker division, which would be later known as the Late Model class.

Since that brief season in 1974 it has been action packed racing and this coming Friday would be a perfect time to take your dad to the races as well.

It is Father’s Day weekend and all five divisions will be in action to make dad happy. Last week in the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modifieds it was Tim Fuller getting to the checkered flag for his 4th win in 6 events.

Josh Reome held off a very determined Brennan Moore and points leader Mike Fowler to grab his first Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman win since July of 2022.

The Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman feature was once again a nail biter and it once again involved Logan Brown, he ran wheel to wheel with Brady Howard who spun in turn three. Brown would go on to claim win number 5 of the season.

Andrew Hennessy has been on a roll in the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Cars. This past Friday he once again held off Josh Verne Jr. to claim his third straight win.

Francis White has led the points in the Sundance Leisure Thundercars, but was not quite happy with his season so far. The defending Champion turned it around with a dominant performance, claiming his first win of the season and increased his point lead in the process.

A full show is slated for the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modifieds, Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman, Donath Motor Worx Limited Sportsman and Sundance Leisure Thundercars. Gates open at 5pm with the first green flying at 7pm, as the Golden Jubilee Season marches on.
