POINT LEADERS DUNN, KIRBY AND PETRIE PICK UP WINS AT CAN-AM JESSICA POWER GRABS DIRTcar SPORTSMAN WIN ON CHENEY TIRE NIGHT

Another beautiful night greeted racers and race fans at the
Can-Am Speedway this past Friday, sponsored by the great people at
Cheney Tire.  As we start our final full month of racing, the point
battles are beginning to heat up and drivers are out to gain every
point they can.  The Whitesboro Plow Shop-DIRTcar 358 Modifieds were
brought to the green by front row starters Tyler Meeks and Jordan
McCreadie, but it was 3rd place starter Jeff Sykes showing the way at
the end of lap 1.  Sykes, a feature winner in 2019, looked strong as
he first fought off challenges from McCreadie and then Billy Dunn. An
untimely caution on lap 8 tightened the field and Dunn took advantage
of the restart and grab the number one spot away from Sykes, with
Bobby Herrington moving up to the number 3 position.  The remaining
laps would go green all the way to the checkers and Dunn would not
only pick up the win but extend his point lead with just 4 point
nights left in the season, Sykes held on for 2nd with Herrington,
McCreadie and Dave Rogers completing the top 5.  Remington Hamm and
Jessica Power lead the field of 30 FX Caprara Honda-DIRTcar Sportsman
to the green and Power wasted no time jumping out to a comfortable
lead.  A couple of cautions would slow the 20 lap event but Power was
up to the challenge on every restart.  At the halfway mark, Power,
Dalton Rombough, Taylor Caprara, Josh Reome, and Jackson Gill held down
the top 5 spots but nobody was going to catch the young lady from
Kingston Ontario and she went on for her second win of the season at
Can-Am.  Caprara settled for second followed by Gill, Rombough and
Reome.  Gill came into the night as the point leader, but Caprara
managed to chop 4 points off of Gills advantage and many are expecting
this point race to go right down to the final lap on the final night
of points.  Tyler Bushey and Shawn Kirby paced the field of FABCO-Pro
Street Stocks to starter Mike LaClair's green flag and point leader
Kirby was quick on the start and showed the way early in the 15 lap
feature.  Only one yellow would slow the event but Kirby was too
strong again this week and went on for his second win a row.  He was
followed across the line by Steven Gilmore, Bushey, Rick Dusckas and
Ken Hartshorn.  With the win, Kirby extended his point lead over
Dusckas, as the father and son plan to take this year's championship
right down to the final night.  Ray Graffam and Chuck Monica sat on
the front row for the TLC Real Estate/Agent Marsha Gibbons-Thunder Car
feature and Monica would grab the lead into turn one and would be
shown as the leader as they passed the grandstands for the first time.
Zac Petrie has had no problem picking up wins in 2019 but none of them
have come easy, Petrie grabbed the top spot away on lap 2 but 7th
place starting Jock Symonds was going to give Petrie all he could
handle.  Again this week the 4 cylinders put a show for the fans but
it was again Zac Petrie picking up the win, over Symonds, Monica,
Graffam and Don Woodworth.  Petrie padded his point lead over Monica
but the championship is still not out of Monica's reach.  Next Friday
will be one of the busiest nights of the season at Can-Am when the
Empire Super Sprints make their 2nd of 3 visits in 2019.  The winged
sprinters always pack the stands at the fast 1/2 mile oval in
LaFargeville and next Friday should be no different.  Joining the
sprints will be all 4 of Can-Am's weekly divisions which makes this
night one of the most exciting and entertaining nights of the season.
Next Friday will be sponsored by S&R Automotive and Cook's Hardware,
plan on getting there early to get a good seat, as it will be a night
full of racing action.  Gates will open at 5:00 with the first heat
hitting the speedway at 7:30 sharp.  For more information follow us on
Facebook at Can-Am Speedway or call the office at 315-876-3478.  See
you all next Friday night when the Winged Warrior of the Empire Super
Sprints invade the Can-Am Speedway.
