Pavlicek prevails at Buffalo River Race Park

GLYNDON, Minn. - Rich Pavlicek scored his first IMCA modified feature win of the season Sunday evening at Buffalo River Race Park. The Casselton, N.D. driver had to beat the best in the business, however, as IMCA modified national point leader, Jason Wolla of Ray, N.D. made a rare appearance to BRRP and threatened Pavlicek for the win.
“I was waiting for him to blow by me on the top side at anytime,” said Pavlicek in OutletRecreation.com Victory Lane. “I was awfully lucky tonight.”
At the midpoint of the race, Pavlicek’s strong run almost came to an end as his No. 17 machine slid off the track. Luckily for Pavlicek, Tom Cummings also spun at the same time, which brought out the caution. As a result, Pavlicek was able to rejoin the field at the point.
As the race resumed, Pavlicek opened up a full straightaway lead over Wolla with the help of some lapped traffic. Pavlicek rode around the semi-banked quarter-mile oval with little challenge in the closing laps before taking the checkers.
Brainerd’s Jake Hageman raced to his second BRRP win of the season. Hageman wheeled his way from two of the best at BRRP, Kelly Jacobson and Chris VanMil en route to the win.
Matt Clark put on a show from the back of the pack. The West Fargo, N.D. driver raced from 14th to round out the top five.
Tim Church claimed his 11th overall feature win of 2017 in the IMCA hobby stocks. Church started in the third position before charging into the lead and holding off Brandon Schmidt to the checkers.
The INEX Legends feature was the race of the hard chargers. Flasher, North Dakota’s Troy Hoff and Steven Kuntz of Bismarck both started outside of the top 10, but both challenged for the lead in the closing laps.
