Chick Confident Going Into Short Track U.S. Nationals at Bristol Motor Speedway
Inside Line Promotions – DE SOTO, Kan. (May 17, 2018) – Mandy Chick is feeling confident as she makes the trip to Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend during the Short Track U.S. Nationals with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what this weekend has in store for us,” she said. “Bristol is my kind of track with the high speeds and high banking. I think we will have a good weekend and hopefully log our first top five of the season.”
Chick traveled to the bullring in Bristol, Tenn., last Saturday for an optional test day in order to prepare for this weekend’s big race.
“Overall, I think testing went great, plus it was a learning experience,” she said. “Out of the box we had pretty decent lap times. We made a lot of changes to the car in between our practice runs and kept getting better and gaining speed. I think when we do our qualifying mock up, we will have a decent qualifying time. Most of the test we spent working on race runs and driver comfort.
“It was actually our first time back in that specific car since Winchester so we settled in well with the car. Our main goals for the practice day were to get some laps, learn the track characteristics considering how the track could change from qualifying to race time and find some speed. One thing I did learn is Bristol seems like a place that you can almost flat foot it all the way around the track so I have worked on getting comfortable with that for this weekend.”
Chick’s racing schedule will take place on Friday with practice, qualifying and the feature event all in the same day.
“I think we are more very prepared and I am confident going into this weekend,” she said. “We have worked hard to prepare the car, and basically triple-checked everything, to hopefully prevent failures of any kind. We have also added another asset to our team. Brandon Oakley has joined our team for the 2018 season as a technical consultant, driver coach and spotter. He has already fit in quite well with our operation and I believe we will accomplish great things with him on our side.”
