OCRS ready for Mike Peters Classic at Red Dirt and a return to Southern Oklahoma Speedway

by John Rittenoure - TULSA, Okla. (June 22, 2021) - Veteran sprint car racer Mike Peters will be remembered on Friday when the AmeriFlex / OCRS IMCA Sprint Cars return to Red Dirt Raceway for the 4th annual Mike Peters Freedom 40 Classic.

The legendary sprint car racer, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 67, won five State Fair Speedway championships in Oklahoma City, two Tulsa Speedway titles, two more at Lakeside Speedway in Dewey, three home track championships at 81 Speedway and two NCRA title.

During his racing career, which began in 1971, Peters picked up 55 NCRA victories and five Hutchinson Kansas State Fairgrounds Grand National titles. Peters has won races at 26 tracks in 7 states and finished 10th in World of Outlaws final standings in 1980. Peters raced with OCRS in 2012-13.

Coming into Friday’s show at Red Dirt Raceway Casey Wills leads veteran Danny Wood by a slim 4-point margin. Both are still looking for a victory in the 2021 season, however both have five top five finishes to their credit. Joe Bob Lee, who won at Red Dirt back in March, sits third in points. Terry Easum and Jase Randolph round out the top five.

Saturday the AmeriFlex / OCRS IMCA Sprint Cars visit Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore for the first time since 2015. Sheldon Barksdale won the final OCRS event held there that season.
