Pierce is class of the field at inaugural Hawkeye 100

It was the final night of the two day Hawkeye 100 at Boone Speedway with 154 World of Outlaws Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Northern SportMods in attendance.

Billy Moyer, Shannon Babb and Kyle Strickler made up the WoO Late Model front row for the first 3 wide start in series history. Strickler and Moyer traded turns at the front until early contact between Ricky Weiss and Strickler brought the caution out. Moyer would lead again, but starting to creep toward the front was Bobby Pierce. Lap 30 saw Pierce charge into the lead, one he wouldn't relinquish as he stayed strong through some late race cautions to take the victory and the $30,000 that came along with it. Babb finished second with Brandon Sheppard third, Moyer fourth and Weiss fifth.

IMCA Northern SportMods came out with Dustin Lynch and Jonathon Logue on the front row. Logue sped off to the lead and looked to take the easy win, but a couple of cautions slowed the field and allowed some key restarts for tenth starting Alec Fett. As the race came to five laps to go Fett was able to track down Logue and make the pass and drive away for the $1000 win. Dylan VanWyk snuck by Logue at the line for second with Brayton Carter fourth and Troy Bauer fifth.

IMCA Modifieds had a pair of 5's on the front row in Chris Palsrok and Todd Shute for their 30 lap feature event. Shute used the outside of the track to gap the field early, but as he got into lap traffic Jake McBirnie eliminated the advantage quickly. The leader had some contact as they negotiated the lap traffic, but a caution came out soon after to calm the field for a moment. Once the green flag came back out it was Shute out front again, but this time it was seventh starting rookie Cody Thompson getting to the runner up spot. Thompson made it interesting, but Shute was too much on the top side as he pulled off the $3000 win. Thompson finished second with McBirnie third, Lucas Lamberies fourth and Joel Rust fifth.

Last up was the IMCA Stock Cars with Chanse Hollatz and Scott Davis on the front row. Hollatz led early with Michael Jaennette and Jake O'Neil doing battle not far behind. O'Neil, the Tucson, AZ Modified star, worked some magic in his first ever adventure in a Stock Car as he got past Hollatz around lap fifteen and went on to take the win and the $1000 that came with it. Hollatz finished second with Jaennette third, Randy Brands fourth and Damon Murty fifth.

Next week at the Boone Speedway will be weekly series #5 with the Excel Floor Covering Modified King of the Hill and Cruiser Cars will join the IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, Northern SportMods, Hobby Stocks and Mod Lites.
