Mallicoat motors to IMCA Modified checkers at Benton County Speedway
VINTON, Iowa (June 16, 2024) – Izac Mallicoat’s first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win came at the Clash on the Coast in Florida back in March.
His second came a little closer to home.
The second-year Modified driver started 10th, but quickly found his way into contention and eventually victory lane Sunday night at Benton County Speedway.
Luke Bird raced into the early lead of the Wright Way Trailers 20-lapper. He paced the field while a host of drivers gave chase.
Mallicoat, running both high and low, worked into contention prior to the midway point, then took over the top spot and held off a hard-charging Ben Chapman, who started alongside Mallicoat in row five. Mark Schulte and Bird completed the top four.
John Oliver Jr. raced from the fourth row to take top honors in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Christie Door Company.
After a terrific battle with Braden Richards, Miciah Hidlebaugh and Kaden Reynolds, Oliver assumed command and then held off a late surge from Hidlebaugh to secure his third win of the season at The Bullring. Richards and Cole Suckow rounded out the top four.
Joe Docekal earned his second win of the season in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. From a fifth row start, Docekal quickly sliced his way through traffic and pulled away late to score the victory ahead of Rayce Mullen, Brett Thomas and Brady Hilmer.
Nathan Ballard earned his fifth win in six weeks in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks presented by iHeart Radio. Another winner who started deep in the field, Ballard took the green from the fourth row and worked past Brad Graham midway through the 15-lapper en route to victory. Matt Brown and Kale Hemsley chased the lead pair to the checkers.
Nolan Tuttle came from the fourth row to pick up his first win of the season in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. Tuttle was joined by Zeke Wheeler, Cristian Grady and Chris Pittman in a four car battle out front before Tuttle took the checkers ahead of that trio.
Griffin McGrath battled Michael Weber throughout the 15-lapper for INEX Legends presented by Legends.Direct. McGrath broke free late to score his first win of the season ahead of Weber and a hard-charging Cohen Henze. Robby Morrison ran fourth.
In a special appearance by the two-man outlaw cruisers, Corey VanDerwilt and Brett Maasdam dominated to take the win.
There are no races scheduled next Sunday due to this week’s Benton County Fair.
Weekly racing will resume Sunday, June 30.
