Top-10 finish in Southern Nationals opener at Beckley Motorsports Park

Taking part in the Schaffer’s Southern Nationals opener, Mike Benedum made the short trip to Beckley Motorsports Park (Beckley, W.Va.) on Friday evening for the $10,053 prize. Drawing 24 Late Models, Mike followed up the fourth fastest time in his group with a second-place finish in his heat, which came behind Dale McDowell. Locked into the eighth-starting position for the main event, Benedum ran a steady pace throughout the 53-lapper, marking him eighth on the rundown when the checkered flag flew. (Rick Neff photo)

After a scheduled off on Saturday, Benedum trekked to the Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) on Sunday for the inaugural Carolina Sizzler. With time trials setting the grid for the $20,000-to-win A-Main, Mike clocked in 16th fastest overall in a field of 28 cars. Clawing forward three spots in the 60-lap affair, Benedum recorded a 13th-place outing.
