Brad Homecoming/ Results August 16th
It was an awesome race night at Auto City on Thursday, August 16th, as 1300 fans welcomed NASCAR star and local hero Brad Keselowski return to the Action Track of Michigan. The driver of the Miller Lite Dodge met with ESPN for an interview (being aired on Sunday before the MIS race) signed autographs, visited with many of the drivers in the pits, met several fans, shook hands with military veterans in attendance and even waved the green flag to start the evening's action. It was a night to remember!
Taking center stage was the JEGS/CRA All-Star Tour Series with 30 cars taking to the 1/2 mile. Kanapolis, N.C.'s Dan Hemrick set fast time with a 15.476. Claude Plante, Jr. slid behind the wheel of Andrew Wyatt's #64 and won the last chance race. In the 100-lap main event, Chad Finley jumped out to the early lead. Finley held the top spot until lap 28 when Brent Downey took command. A caution flag tightened up the field on 34, and David McManus took over the lead on the restart. His lead was short-lived as Downey passed him two laps later and began to pull away. Hemrick had a bead on him, however as both drivers worked their way through lapped traffic. With just 5 laps to go Hemrick got by on the bottom of the backstretch, and won his 4th CRA Series feature of the season. What a thrill as Brad presented the trophy. Downey finished second with local drivers McManus, Jimmy Novak and Robbie Johnson rounding out the top 5.
The Tiger Auto Salvage Street Stocks were also action, as Adam Rowe had quick time on the 1/4 mile with a 15.25. Unfortunately the 50-lap Miller Lite main event was rained after only 6 laps with Maverick Morrow leading.
This Saturday, August 18th, it's round 3 of the Triple Crown Series for the Pro Late Models. Also racing are the Street Stocks, Virtual Hornets, School Bus Figure-8's, the Great Lakes Mini Cup Series and more. For more info call 810-686-9500 or go to autocityspeedway.com.
