Andrews Uses Late Restart to Garner Second Win of Season at Attica

Inside Line Promotions – ATTICA, Ohio (Aug. 20, 2019) – Chris Andrews capitalized on a late-race restart to charge into the lead and drive to his second win of the season at Attica Raceway Park last Friday.
The victory gives Andrews a little more advantage in the track’s championship standings heading into championship night this Friday when he seeks his third 410ci winged sprint car title at the oval.
Andrews started last Friday strong, turning the second quickest time in qualifications and then driving from fourth to a second-place finish in his heat race. That made him eligible for the redraw to start in the top 10 of the feature.
“It all starts with qualifying and we’ve been very strong at that all year, usually qualifying in the top four,” he said.
Andrews, who began the main event in the sixth position, rode around in the top four most of the race, even falling back to fifth. However, a tangle involving the second and third-place cars with five laps to go put him second for the restart.
“I’ve been involved in close point battles before and I guess I was maybe thinking about that a little too much,” he said. “I rode around the bottom and middle a lot at the beginning of the race, just trying to be cautious hoping to get a top-three finish. That’s not my style at Attica. When that caution came out and I knew I was restarting second, I was like, ‘Shit, I just want to win,’ and put the car up against the cushion and it stuck. Duane and Ken Mackey and my crew have this car fantastic every time out at Attica.”
Andrews, who came into last Friday’s race with a scant three-point lead, now takes a 10-point advantage into championship night, which has double points on the line.
“We just need to do what we’ve done all year – qualify good and get a top three in the heat and the rest should take care of itself,” he said. “I can’t wait until we get that championship and then concentrate on the last weekend against the All Stars.”
