Sanders Prevails In NARC Sprint Car Feature At Antioch Speedway
Antioch, CA...May 11...Justin Sanders of Aromas won the 30 lap NARC Winged 410 Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. It was the Second Annual Contra Costa County Clash, and the win paid Sanders $3,500 aboard the Demo Mittry owned Sprinter.
Sanders started on the pole and charged into the lead at the green ahead of Joey Ancona of Concord and Dylan Bloomfield of Oakley. The leaders were quickly into slower traffic, and Shane Golobic of Fremont made a big move in Turn 4 of the seventh lap to move from the fifth to second. The yellow flag slowed the pace on Lap 9 for Jarrett Soares of Gilroy.
Sanders continued to lead Golobic and Bloomfield on the restart. Sanders led through a pair of mid-race yellow flags. They got a good green flag run, but Sanders was making all the right moves in traffic to keep Golobic at bay. The red flag waved on Lap 27 as Gage Garcia flipped in Turn 2.
Sanders maintained command on the restart and held off Golobic for the well-earned victory. Bloomfield settled for third ahead of Bud Kaeding of San Jose and NARC point leader Cole Macedo of Lemoore.
James Thomson Pittsburg won the Pacific Coast Hobby Stock Main Event. Ken Johns set the early pace ahead of previous winner Clarence Holbrook III of Galt. Brandon Carpenter of Galt moved into second on Lap 2, and a yellow flag waved for Maddie Motts of San Pablo In Turn 1 on Lap 6. Johns continued to lead Aidan Ponciano of Oakley on the restart. Jared Baugh of Pittsburg moved into second on Lap 9.
The battle for the lead intensified with Baugh making an inside pass on the front stretch on Lap 17 to take the lead. A bit of contract between Johns and Baugh in Turn 4 a lap later sent Baugh to the pits with a flat tire. Johns also pitted. Suddenly, Thomson had the lead over Carpenter. It was close down the stretch, but Thomson prevailed ahead of Carpenter, Ryan Hart of Dos Palos, Holbrook and Tommy Clymens of Brentwood.
Greg Dennett of Livermore won the 15 lap BCRA Lightning Sprint Main Event. The race saw a red flag waving after two laps when Hunter Kinney of Citrus Heights and Bradley Schmidt the Placerville got together on the front straightaway with Schmidt doing a cartwheel for a red flag. Both drivers were out at that point.
Dennett led the restart ahead of Scott Kinney of Citrus Heights. Kinney stalled in Turn 4 for a yellow flag after six laps. Dennett led the restart ahead of reigning champion Dakota Albright of Waterford, and they finished in that order with Matt Land of Elk Grove in third ahead of Scott Kinney and Schmidt.
Racing continues during the Contra Costa County Fair on both Friday and Saturday night. The Friday program will feature a Figure 8 along with Wingless Spec Sprints and Hobby Stocks. The Saturday program will include the IMCA sanctioned Modifieds, Sport Modifieds and Stock Cars along with the 600 Micros.
