Midkiff Charges to Champaign County MARA Win

Urbana, Illinois (July 19, 2024) – Alex Midkiff scored his second MARA victory of the 2024 season, on Friday, at the Champaign County Speedway Fair race in Urbana, IL. Midkiff charged from his sixth-place starting position to win.

Fair races have been a staple of motorsports since auto racing began decades ago. Friday’s event marked the first fair race for the MARA midgets since the series revival just over a year ago.

Heat Race #1 on the night went to Midkiff coming from sixth place starting position. Following him were Patrick Bruns, and Jace Sparks. Sparks was coming off of his violent wreck just under a week ago. His normal ride was not ready in time so he jumped into the backup car of Daltyn England for the night.

Heat Race #2 brought the crowd to their feet with four drivers all vying for the win. Parker Jones, driving the #77 Holderfield entry, rather than his normal family ride, took the victory. Following him to the line were point leader RJ Corson, and England.

The feature event of the night started off with Tyler Roth and Devin Feger to his outside. At the drop of the green flag, the two made their way into turn one side by side. Coming off of turn two it was Feger who would see the advantage and lead lap one. Feger would continue to lead as the laps began to wind down. Just at the halfway point the caution flew for the first and only time of the event.

Feger would lead the field on the restart, but a hard-charging Midkiff saw his opportunity. On lap 11 Midkiff drove to the outside of second place Corson, setting his sights on Feger. On lap 12 Midkiff charged past Feger on the outside and never looked back. The rest of the event would go green and Midkiff would cross the line with a 1.841 second lead. Following him to the line were Corson, England, Mark McMahill and Feger rounding out the top five.
