2023 Midget Auto Racing Association Mid Season Recap

Lincoln, IL (July 20th, 2023) - With 6 races under the belt of the newly sanctioned series, the Midget Auto Racing Associations’ first season back in action since 2006 has shown lots of great racing with more races to come. It is time to take a look back at some of the previous events, as well as the points battle, and what is to come for the series.

The series started off with a trip to Lincoln Speedway, where Patrick Bruns became the inaugural winner of the modern era MARA series. The series’ second trip to Lincoln saw Mitchell Davis pick up his first win of the season in a fantastic battle with Daltyn England and Adam Taylor. The series’ first co-sanctioned event with the AFS Badger Midgets and the third event overall saw Adam Taylor pick up the win at Kankakee County Speedway. The first rainout of the season resulted in the fourth race of the season at Lincoln Speedway being canceled. The fifth race of the season ended with Andy Baugh winning at Lincoln Speedway to become the 4th different winner of the season. The second co-sanctioned event, this time at Sycamore Speedway, saw Todd Kluever pick up his first win of the season in the sixth race of the season. The seventh race of the season at Lincoln Speedway would get rained out unfortunately. The eighth race of the year would see Patrick Bruns become the first repeat winner with the MARA Midgets and he swept up the win.

The battle in the points sees Mark McMahill lead the way with 395 points, 36 in front of second placed, Daltyn England, who sits on 359 points. Patrick Bruns finds himself third with 331 points while Jace Sparks sits on 285. Adam Taylor is fifth with 281, Harrison Kleven sixth with 240, and Andy Baugh on 233. The final three spots in the top ten see Kevin Battefeld eighth with 215 points, Tim Siner with 214 points ninth, and Tommy Colburn tenth with 191 points.

5 qualifying sessions have seen 4 drivers get quick time, with Mark McMahill topping the board with 2 overall. Gedd Ross, Patrick Bruns, and Kyle Stark all sit on 1 quick time overall.

The hardest charger in the feature this season has been Adam Taylor, up 24 spots. Second goes to Mark McMahill with 22, and third goes to Patrick Bruns, up 21 spots. Fourth is Tyler Roth and fifth goes to Lamont Critchett.

The MARA Midgets have 8 races left in their schedule. A doubleheader weekend awaits this upcoming weekend with a co-sanctioned event with the AFS Badger Midgets on Saturday, July 22nd at Sycamore Speedway and a race at Lincoln Speedway on July 23rd. August 5th will see another co-sanctioned event with the AFS Badger Midgets at Sycamore Speedway for the Kane County Fair Night. August 18th the series returns to Lincoln Speedway and then another co-sanctioned event on the 19th at Sycamore Speedway. The final Lincoln Speedway visit will take place on the 25h of August for the tracks season finale. The final 2 points race will be co-sanctioned events in a 3 race weekend starting September 2nd at Sycamore Speedway and making the series only Wisconsin trip to Angell Park Speedway for the Fireman’s Nationals on the 3rd. A non-points night will take place on the 4th for the second night of the Fireman’s Nationals.
