Milliken Scores Sentimental First Bandit Win at Lakeview

Nichols, SC (08/28/21) - With cars lined up on both sides of the road leading into the track, the largest crowd of 2021 gathered at Lake View Motor Speedway for Round 7 of 9 for the South Atlantic Diesel Steel Block Bandits Dirt Late Model Challenge presented by Racing for Heroes. It was the second Annual Edwards Family Memorial as promoters Scott and Sophie Tripp held the event for the second year at their immaculate 3/8 mile oval. The scotching palmetto sun baked drivers and crews much like Charlotte but the track crew had done their homework as no dust were to found anywhere on this night. Hot laps kicked off the festivities, as Greensboro native Daniel Tucker would win both hot laps and grab the pole award of $200 from Bryan Sullivan. In the HGR's Truck & Trailer Sales, Inc.. heat race #1, Tucker and Taylor Puckett would bring the 8 lap heat to green and on lap 1 the two would tangle with Tucker spinning and going to the rear. Pucker goes on to win the heat and win the pole for the 40 lap feature. In the Scott Service Company heat #2, Willie Milliken and Dustin Mitchell made up the front row. Milliken would flex his muscle early and pull away for the win. Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas heat #3, Russell Erwin and Robbie Emory would start up front with the two drag racing off turn two before Emory clears Erwin and the two collide. The result was a bunch of torn up race cars behind them with Shallotte driver, Kimbo Long flipping off the back stretch end over end and totally destroying his car. Erwin would be scored as the leader by race control and would go on to win the heat.It was finally feature time and with an extra $500 added to the purse by Chad Howery Real Estate Group the tension was high as 25 super stars got ready to tackle the place they call #DaView. Puckett and Milliken made up row one and after one failed attempt at a start, Milliken would power past Puckett off turn two as the crowd came to their feet to roar their approval. On lap 6, Erwin was running in the 5th spot with Emory in tow. As the two exited turn 4, contact was made sending the points leader into the inside wall. Puckett would slow in turn one 1 ending his night as smoke poured before the Greer SC drivers machine. All eyes were on Millikan as he dashed away from the field but the best battle on the track was between Derick Quade and Shaun Harrell as they waged a battle for the second and third spots. Milliken maneuvered traffic masterfully and would hang on to pick up his first Bandit win. Harrell would bring his Capital Race Cars mount home in second, Quade’s Longhorn Chassis was third, with Emory and Michael Rouse rounding out the top five.In victory lane, a relieved Milliken summed it up, “ This one is special, I wanted this one more than any other, my wife works so hard on this race and it was time to bring one of her nice trophies back to our house. The car was flawless, we are really making gains on this Barry Wright Race Cars chassis and I’m excited about these last two races, this thing ain’t over, I definitely ain’t heard a fat lady sing. Milliken, Quade and Harrell made up big time points in the title run- “Well, he’s (Erwin) been on cruise control all year but he might better look over his shoulder cause we’re coming. The Wildchild picked up the $5500 and a 1984 replica championship clock that Hank Edwards won for the victory.——————————————————Notable tidbits:*With Milliken's win along with Harrells runner up finish, coupled with Erwin's 12th place finish, the battle for the championship has taken a surprising turn as the tour leaves Lakeview.*Another great run for Cy Nelms Jr as he backs up his top 5 at Dixieland Speedway with a solid 7th place finish.*Rouse quietly posts another top 5 run. If this driver hadn’t missed a few races, he’d be closer in the championship chase.*heartbreak city for Tucker as his night went south after such a strong start. Tucker winds up 16th.*Kimbo Long was very sore but ok after the wild end over end flip.*13 year old Landon Zakowski comes home with a 10th place finish in his very first Bsndit start. Keep an eye on Big Tex!*********************************Up next - September 18th The "New" Lavonia Speedway $5000 to win, Round No. 8
