Five Exciting Classes Launch Awesome Weekend at Inaugural World Series of Pulling Presented by Ohio CAT
Charlestown, IN (July 22, 2022) – Anticipation was high as pullers and fans converged on Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio for the Inaugural World Series of Pulling presented by Ohio CAT. The event kicked off with the Thursday night, July 21st session where five classes from the Champions Tour gave pullers their first shot at getting into the “final five” that will decide the overall class champions in the Saturday night event finale.
The twin track format at Summit Motorsports Park came with a unique twist, where the first 150 feet of track surface was divided into separate lanes; after 150 feet, competitors could choose to use any area on the track of their choosing.
Unlimited Super Stock Tractors were first to the east track, tested by the Protect the Harvest X-Factor sled of Bungart Motorsports. Collin Ross and the Triple Bypass McCormick took the early lead and was eclipsed a few hooks later by Josh Blackbourn wheeling the Armed and Dangerous-HD CaseIH. Three hooks later John Strickland hit the track on the GALOT 2 AGCO and stormed to the lead with a monster pass past 366 feet. Strickland’s teammate Brent Payne and the GALOT 1 AGCO would be the only puller within striking distance of him, making it a 1-2 finish for the Benson, North Carolina-based team. This is also Strickland first win in Champions Tour competition.
On the west track 27 Summit Racing Mini Rods put their exciting brand of power on display with the Lucas Oil Decision Maker Mini sled on duty to keep them in check. Competition was exciting throughout the class and Jesslyn Fagundes made a brilliant run on the next-to-last run of competition to take the win on the Bank Roller machine. It is her first win on the Champions Tour for the California-based competitor.
Fourteen potent Pro Stock Tractors were at Norwalk, with a target squarely on one man, Brandon Simon. Simon, coming into Norwalk, was 6-for-6 in competition with his stable of machines, with the Loud and Heavy Deere holding five wins for the season. Jack Maize and the Billet Binder IH made a statement run to kick off the class and held the lead until Simon came on the track with the Loud and Heavy entry, wrestling away the lead by five feet and ultimately the win. Maize would hold on for second and Kevin Masterson would roar into third on the Tinker Toy Deere.
Big River Steel Super Modified Tractors followed the Summit Racing Mini Rods on the west track with the General Tire Decision Maker providing the stops for the class. Twelve tractors answered the call to compete with class leader Ricky Long and the MAVTV machine looking to extend his season win streak to four. Jed Leischner and the Dirtslinger would break Long’s win streak for the season on a 333 foot run. Long would keep up his championship pace by locking in second place with Dave Walsh and the Irish Challenger 2.0 in third.
The evening wrapped up with the Pro Modified Four Wheel Drive Truck division with a full field of 24 mountain-motor trucks on the east track. The battle at the top of the class has been intense with Charlie Hinds and the Runnin Wild Texas Style Ford holding the points lead and a three-way tie for second with Jim Bosch (Midnight Raider Chevy), Steve Clem (Ratical Chevy), and Steve Bost (Southern Bell Chevy) all looking to break out from the pack. The order was shaken up with a win by Bosch, edging closer to Hinds who ultimately finished sixth. Clem finished fifth, claiming the third spot in points and Bost’s eighth place run put him into the fourth spot in points. Finishing second in this session was The Punisher Chevy of Larry Jarrell and the Renegade Dodge of Graham Young in third.
