Stars of Champions Tour and Silver Series Shine Bright at America's Pull
Charlestown, IN (July 18, 2022) – The Marshall-Putnam Fairgrounds in Henry, Illinois continued its legacy as a highlight for pullers and fans of the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Champions Tour with the America’s Pull held on Saturday July 16.
Five Champions Tour classes were joined in action by a Silver Series class to entertain the packed house in Henry.
After the reverent and patriotic opening ceremonies 95 Limited Pro Stock Tractors opened the event on the infield track with ten entries. Chris Aschliman and the Diggin’ for a Living CaseIH had notched a second place finish the evening prior at the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Super Pro Showdown in Jerseyville, Illinois and laid down a solid 331 foot, first-hook pass that stood up for the win. A little over eight feet behind Aschliman was the Special Edition Deere of Steve Bousema in second followed by Chandler Burns on the 2 Ruthless IH in third.
The grandstand track featured the ARP Lightweight Super Stock Tractors with fifteen entries. The Armed and Dangerous – Excessive Force out of the Chizek stable of CaseIH machines piloted by Terry Blackbourn was in the winner’s circle for the fourth time in 2022, followed by Larry Phillips on the Extremely Insane CaseIH and Brandon Phillips on the Loud and Light John Deere.
Summit Racing Mini Rods came out in big numbers in Henry with twenty-three contestants attacking the Henry infield track. Jordan Nelson guided the Loud and Mini machine out of the Simon Sez Motorsports stable to the win, his second win of the season. The win gave Nelson a slim two-point advantage on the defending class champ Grayson Shelton and his Sawed Off Mini; Adam Koester and his Footloose Mini roared into the second spot in Henry, followed by Chase Richardson piloting Mini named Vibrator in third.
ARP Super Stock Diesel Trucks had eight potent entries for the Henry grandstand crowd. Former class champ Cody Hastings and the Against the Grain RAM took a mid-pack hook to the win, besting the second place effort of current class champ Erik Stacey and his Smokinya HD Chevy and Brion Withrow’s Nut Job 2 Chevy in third. Stacey holds a six-point lead in the class leaving Henry with Hastings and Withrow tied for second place.
Pro Stock Tractors offered nine tough entries for the evening on the grandstand track. Brandon Simon has had a stranglehold on the top spot of the class all season, alternating between the class leading Loud and Heavy and second place Loud and Loaded Deeres atop the leaderboard. On this occasion Simon won again, this time on the newly-acquired Loud and Heavy X. Kevin Masterson guided the legendary Tinker Toy Deere into the second spot while Simon nabbed third on the Loud and Heavy machine.
Big River Steel Super Modified Tractors made their third stop for the season in Henry with eleven of the most powerful machines to ever hit a pulling track in action. Bret Berg laid down an excellent pass on the Renk Seeds Money Maker to take an early lead but was soon passed by Keith Long on the Lucas Oil entry. Ricky Long would ultimately take the win on the MAVTV machine, making him three-for-three in the 2022 points race.
Next up for the Champion Tour elite is a date with the much-anticipated Inaugural World Series of Pulling at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio this week, July 21-23. All ten classes of the Champions Tour will be contested over three days in Norwalk, with two sessions of qualifying for each class leading up the exciting finals session set for the Saturday night.
