Rumble by the Refuge Produces Big Action Despite Rain-Shortened Competition
Charlestown, IN (June 28, 2022) – Mound City, Missouri and its’ Old Rodeo Grounds were the stage for the Rumble by the Refuge, the latest Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League event on June 24-25. After a rain-induced hiatus in 2021, the event returned for 2022 and celebrated it’s tenth year. While weather claimed the first session that was scheduled on the 24th, the second session went off in front of an appreciative crowd with seven great divisions of competition.
A pair of the exceptional Bungart X-Factor sleds were in action providing the stopping power on the excellent Mound City track.
Three Champions Tour classes held court at the Rumble by the Refuge. ARP Lightweight Super Stocks featured fourteen strong entries with perennially tough Terry Blackbourn delivering a winning pass on the fourth hook of the class with the Team Chizek Considered Armed and Dangerous-Excessive Force CaseIH. Optima Batteries Super Modified Two Wheel Drive Trucks offered an exceptional group of 21 machines with Jason Sullivan and the Corn Burner Dodge-bodied machine blasting to the win on the final pass of SMTWD action. The ground-pounding Pro Stocks featured nine potent machines, with a significant streak broken – kind of. Brandon Simon and the Loud and Heavy Deere had maintained a stranglehold on Pro Stock for the season thus far, producing a record-breaking four straight wins. However, it was the combination of Simon and the Loud and Loaded Deere that took the win in Mound City, keeping Simon’s personal winning streak alive.
Combatants in three Champion Seed Western Series classes sparred at the Old Rodeo Grounds. The 95 Limited Pro Stock class, also running for Silver Series points, offered a third-straight Silver Series win for the International Addiction IH, with Bradley Hartman wheeling it to the top over twenty-one other machines. Pro Farm Tractors were also out in force, presenting 15 machines for the great Mound City crowd. Steve Stoll and the Red Majesty 66-series IH took the class lead on the fourth hook of competition and held on for the win. Pro Stock Four Wheel Drive Trucks brought their screaming naturally-aspirated machines onto the Old Rodeo Grounds track as the final Western Series class in action. Greg Mears and the impressive Bringing the Heat GMC roared to the win in a class of five entries.
The Nebraska Bush Pullers offered the Light Modified Tractor class at Mound City. Light Mod is a diverse group of pullers with numerous powerplant options; a turbine, V12, or automotive-based engine is capable of the win on any occasion. An Allison V12-powered emerged atop the class of ten in Mound City, with Blake Otte piloting the Frequent Flyer to the class title.
